Lilija Bručkienė: How much can you bribe a teacher this fall?

Because the accolades of those in charge are how well they cope, but when you don’t have to measure the temperature when you get to school and now you have a runny nose, it is not a sign of illness, when the funds do not adjust and adapt to the new conditions, only success and community awareness can help. Because a subject teacher teaches at least 120 children every day. What if he’s still on duty in the hallways? And that flow management, when children meet later in non-formal education, public spaces, city events, is so questionable. It seems that the illusion of peace must spread before the elections … at any cost. And then that flood.

And how did the teachers live that month? In fact, I myself felt like a tenant at my school, who was sent to a different house every 45 minutes with all the properties he lived in. It is difficult even physically, because the breaks are designed to gather all the necessary material for another lesson, transfer information from a work computer to a memory or online space, observe the general order of the class, etc. And where there are more distance lessons (half of the school works like this, the flows will change from October). In other schools, I had to be interested, the children in the classrooms are not allowed in the hallways, so even during breaks, teachers stay to supervise them. And then she rushes to give her own lessons. And it works all the time knowing that there is a very real threat of infection. There really is a lot of chaos, but the modern world presents such challenges, they must be addressed. Teachers, as in the spring, understanding the complexity of the situation, give lessons in the conditions in which they exist. It is true that the government showed “concern” – it offered to carry out tests with rapid tests. The same ones that led to the purchase of black clouds that hung over the heads of the rulers. The same ones that were bought at a price much higher than what could be bought, and that turned out to be very unreliable and little necessary. That’s such a smart strategic move: attention has been shown, evidence has been consumed, scandal has been suppressed.

When there is no need to measure the temperature when you arrive at the educational institution, and now you have a runny nose, it is not a sign of illness, when the funding is not organized and adapted to the new conditions, only the success and awareness of the community can help.

Another more interesting aspect in educational institutions is the sharp increase in wages. It is simply forgotten to say that the vast majority of schools are basically in financial difficulty, with insufficient funds to cover all of their educational needs, so often the hours of community activities for teachers are reduced so that salaries are not reduced. as a result of fall wages. Those who do not work here in the educational system would not understand without drinking … But many times this is the reality. And then it is expected that when it comes to vocation, the noble mission will continue to do the work at the end of those allotted hours. What would the rulers say? They would say that, as promised, the salaries were raised, but the schools were left with the right to administer and therefore the administration representatives were to blame for the lack of funds. As for everything else. What a simple scheme without defeat: it does not organize the system, it does not provide enough tools to achieve the set goals, and it transfers responsibility, which is treated as freedom, to others. And anticipate fines. This scheme has worked well for many years.

Autumn has brought even more interesting schemes. For example, pre-election programs. At first I thought that after 2018. The strikers who have ruled the educational community have already removed them from the ranks of their potential fans and will no longer even try to seduce them with glitter. But it turns out not. The first trick was very cheap (in every possible way): September 18. Minister Monkevičius proposed to mayors to award bonuses to school leaders for increased workload due to coronavirus management. Such a populist promotional movement because it does not commit to anything and it costs nothing. However, the public statement itself was immediately opposed by part of the educational community. But who cares about that microclimate in schools? After all, the “divide and rule” principle works much more effectively. The next trick is September 23rd. The government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport to allocate 100 euros of the funds provided for in the DNA Plan for the Future Economy of Lithuania to compensate the rest of teachers, from kindergarten to higher education. For this, 6.3 million were allocated. EUR. Does tourism in Lithuania support teachers here? Because before that I already supported the builders. But that’s it, I have heard opinions about the teeth of a donated horse … The only ironic question is: why do we want to buy our votes cheaper than retirees or doctors? Do we look stupider? Are you more desperate? And, to put it a little more seriously, such a useless waste of public funds without responsibility shows that those in control do not think about investing, adapting systems to changing conditions, preparing to live in a world above threat. very specific: they have received millions, the power to distribute. And now they are launching their campaigns in the hope that voters will not even think that the time will come when those debts will have to be paid and the funds used irrationally will fall on someone’s shoulders (our own).

And yet we don’t need gifts, pins, spreaders, let’s work and win in the right conditions. Then we can choose where, how, why it is to rest. After all, there were certainly exceptional conditions related to the coronavirus situation, where additional funds were needed to pay for very specific work performed. And above all, it is more time spent preparing lessons and correcting assignments. No payment was made for this. Graduation consultations in June. No payment was made for this. The work of the examiners and evaluators at the beginning of the official holidays has left the old degrading indexes. And there has always been an excuse for not having the funds.

The lack of a digitized content database is not even worth talking about. We have returned to schools where until now there are no more specific centralized solutions for changing teaching conditions. It is true that it promises to be soon. However, we have a very bitter experience when we were promised to pay for everything. We will live, we will see.

The elections are coming up, so we can still get all kinds of attention. Probably not much needed and not very expensive, but well advertised. And if we really want to scoff at that, let’s look at the political debate: we’ve already seen theatrical prayers / oaths, waving weird sticks and demagogic slogans about wages, pensions, benefits, and necessarily increasing shoe questions, answers on wheels, and “wasteful” Christians. and all sorts of other true values, and the speakers’ departure from the phrase “sex education” and many other elements of farce and absurdity. We’ve also heard praise from those in power, how well managed the education system is, how fluid the reforms are, how fast wages are increasing. For now, it is really one of the free opportunities to see a theater enriched with black humor.

And what remains if the minister did not think that 100 euros could be donated to compensate for cultural events. But not yet in October, we still have hope …

Lilija Bručkienė is a teacher.
