J.Gricius was born in 1928. August 5 Beautiful. He studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow and did an internship at Lenfilm film studio for three years.

In 1978, Jonas Gricis received the title of LSSR People’s Artist. In 1997, the cameraman received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas.

In 2004, J.Gricius received the title of Honorary Doctor of Film Direction from the SAGerasimov State University of Cinematography in Russia.

In 2014, the cinematographer received the Lithuanian National Art and Culture Prize for creating the foundations of Lithuanian film poetics, the highest visual film culture and for professional awareness.
