The International Biathlon Federation has announced that it will temporarily withdraw the best Latvian biathlete Andrejs Rastorgujevs from the competition.
Latvians are punished by Article 2.4 of the Anti-Doping Rules, which deals with the control of athletes.
Rastorguyev was unavailable three times in a twelve-month period to doping controllers who have the right to inspect athletes according to the athletes’ location specified in the ADAMS system.
Rastorgujev has two weeks to send an explanation to the World Biathlon Federation.
He publicly apologized to the sponsors, fans, family, teammates and coaches, the Latvian Biathlon Federation and the Latvian Olympic Committee and the Olympic team, as well as the national military forces to which they belong.
“I want to emphasize that I made some human errors, I would say technical errors,” Rastorgujev wrote in a statement on Facebook. – I want to assure everyone that I did not do anything unacceptable. I have never used prohibited substances or used prohibited methods. I openly advocated fair play. Hurts. My long-term and honest behavior is marked by a technical error.
It’s hard to understand everything right now. Since the beginning of the season I have tried to explain facts and circumstances that unfortunately have not been taken into account, but I have decided to exercise my rights and prove my truth ”.
In recent years, there have been more sports stars who have outperformed doping controllers three times a year.
Olympic swimming champion Rūta Meilutytė was disqualified for two years in 2019; our swimmer explained that at that time she was already considering retiring from professional sports.
