This order will take effect as of midnight on September 19.

A person who has come to Latvia and has visited a country where the total number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 16 in 14 days will have to isolate himself for 10 days. Lithuania is currently on the list of those countries.

The incidence rate of the coronavirus in Latvia is only 4.2, the mortality from this disease – 0.1 cases per 100 thousand. population.

In view of the deteriorating epidemiological situation, the regular transport of passengers to the Czech Republic has also been prohibited.

The isolation requirement applies to people arriving in Latvia from 28 countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area, as well as Monaco, Andorra and San Marino, as well as to people traveling in transit through these countries.

Travelers returning from Australia, Sacartwell, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand and Uruguay are not subject to this restriction.

Earlier on Friday, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga warned that such a choice by Latvia was likely: “If Latvia does not apply exemptions to Lithuania when deciding on affected countries on Friday, Lithuanians who go to it will probably have to isolate themselves, “said the minister.

“Their decision will probably depend on whether they apply some flexibility or not, but we should definitely be in a position where we, as Estonians, can find ourselves in the same situation,” the minister told BNS on Friday.

According to A. Veryga, it is not yet known what Latvia’s solution will be.

“If it is as it has been for the last two weeks, we usually find out about that decision on Friday afternoon. Of course, it would be good if they said it earlier, because in Latvia there is so much difference with Lithuania and Estonia that it takes effect on Saturday. We must tell our citizens to those who plan to travel to Latvia, because there are really a lot of people living on the border, they should know about it, but we cannot rush to another country, ”said the Minister.

On September 11, an isolation requirement was introduced for those traveling to Estonia from Estonia.

On May 15, after Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia lifted restrictions on free movement that applied to each other, the “Baltic Bubble” was formed.

Citizens of these countries were allowed to travel freely through the three Baltic states; They did not have to isolate themselves across borders, as long as they had not left the three countries in the last 14 days, did not have to comply with quarantine and did not have symptoms of respiratory diseases.

During the pandemic, the Baltic bubble became the first travel zone of its kind in the 27 members of the European Union to stimulate national economies.

It was in effect until Latvia introduced restrictions on arrivals from Estonia.
