According to specialists from the National Health Center, sometimes 15 or more thousand exams are carried out during the week in December, and up to 10 thousand on weekends (per day). According to official statistics published on Monday, in the last two weeks there have been 1,376 new cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in Lithuania.
Last day, the highest number of new cases of the deadly virus infection was detected in Kaunas county – 752. On Sunday, 4 people died of the COVID-19 disease in this county and 20 throughout Lithuania.
Kaunas currently has a population of 6,702 and 12,485 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified so far. On Sunday, according to the Kaunas City Municipality report, 484 new cases of the disease were confirmed. During the week, they increased 16.42 percent. So far, 5,620 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Kaunas, but 122 have died. Another 41 deaths from coronavirus-infected Kaunas are due to other illnesses.
According to the morbidity rate, the city of Kaunas is now ranked 21st in the list of Lithuanian municipalities. In Lithuania’s second-largest city, 1,377 new cases of infection have been identified per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.
Klaipėda is mentioned in the list that reflects the morbidity situation due to COVID-19 in the 60 municipalities of the country, now – 22 (1,372.8 cases), Kaunas district – 23 (1,355.5 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants). The area has a population of 2,345 and 1,671 recovered. 4,071 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection were reported.
The city of Šiauliai, which has been among the municipalities with a high morbidity rate for a long time, is currently 11th (1607.7 cases) on the list, as announced on Monday, the Vilnius district municipality it is 17 (1495.8 cases).
According to statistics, the development of COVID-19 in Vilnius is not as intense as in the neighboring Vilnius district municipality. Vilnius is ranked 36th out of 60 municipalities in terms of the number of new COVID-19 cases detected in the last 14 days. In the capital, 100 thousand. its population is now 1,198.4.
Like Sunday, as well as Monday, the ranking of the areas with the highest morbidity in the list of Lithuanian municipalities remains unchanged. The development of the virus still cannot be stopped for the city of Alytus (2433 cases), Panevėžys (2395.1 cases) and the Kaišiadorys district (2211.6 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in 14 days).
The situation is much brighter now in Neringa (538.2 cases), as well as in the district municipalities of Širvintos (577.2 cases) and Kalvarija (608.6 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants).
To date, as announced by ELTA, 1,039 people have died from COVID-19 in Lithuania, and a further 518 coronavirus-infected diseases have been identified as causes of death.
