The labor market has been replaced by quarantine
At the beginning of the report, L. Duksaitė-Iškauskienė spoke about the rapidly evolving labor market and suggested recalling the times of Lithuania’s independence.
According to her, at that time the parents explained to their children that they should take up the profession of managers, but in no way opt for the profession of builders, but, as they added, the situation had already changed a decade later. According to her, after the crisis of 2007-2008, the job of a builder was not bad, and the people who worked for him could buy those things that those who worked in management could not afford at that time.
“Now we have a clear trend again, as the Government tells us.
She says that it is very important to us that as many people as possible choose IT specialties. We go back to extremes and if we remember the quarantine that just took place, then during it a strong change has occurred again.
“People have chosen jobs that are safe during quarantine, that is, companies that do not stop during quarantine, companies that are obliged to provide services to us and they are not necessarily technology companies,” he said of the drastic changes in the labor market.
The market was divided into three groups
Speaking of employees in general, L. Duksaitė-Iškauskienė divided them into several groups. According to her, about 20 percent. Lithuanian labor markets are made up of people who work in a company for their entire lives.
“For example, the Lithuanian railways, where a person works as a conductor all his life. This type of company is very useful for companies, because in this way they save the salary fund ”, he explained.
Slightly more than half of the labor market, as mentioned, is also made up of people loyal to their profession. This means that these workers can change jobs, but no one will change professions while they are alive.

“It’s also great for employers or newcomers to the job market, because there is something to learn from.
For example, doctors, directors of finance. They change companies, they are no longer loyal to the company, but they are loyal to their profession ”, explained the specialist, adding that the remaining 30% can be classified as a segment that is not faithful to anyone, neither to their work nor to your profession.
“They no longer want to work for a company and they cannot be loyal to the profession because they are changing so fast and the job market is changing that they will no longer be able to do the same job for the rest of their careers,” he said.
I see a number of problems
During the presentation, L. Duksaitė-Iškauskienė said that he sees many problems in the current job market.
One of them is the employment of older people. She said it is currently difficult for people 55 and older to find a job, much less a managerial position.
“We have an even bigger problem when it comes to men and women. The situation of women in the labor market is worse, they earn on average 14%. Less. The average for the European Union (EU) is 16%.
Women face hiring problems in the same way. Because either they are too young, or they are potential mothers, or they have children and their children will get sick and we will not hire them, or they are 55 years old and will not “learn anything new.”
So if you are planning your career, you have to come to a clear agreement with your employer that you want to earn as much as your fellow man, ”he said, noting that women and themselves lack the courage to at least apply for one job or the other.
The situation today and in 2030
Speaking of today’s young people, who were born in the 21st century and are now gradually joining our labor market, the manager assured that they will be much more entrepreneurial people and it will soon be impossible to hire them for employment.
“This is very good news for businesses, because we will have a partnership, we will be able to buy their services. The other moment is that these people do not change jobs as often, because most companies currently suffer from the fact that young people change jobs very often, ”he said.
Today, according to the manager, it is possible to compare that a young man sees work as a computer game, so he constantly needs challenges and changes, which has the effect that the employee’s working time in an organization is only shortened, and the same trends will be observed in the future. .
“The expectation for the future is to earn more, but work less. We are talking more and more about a 4-day work week, but we are not talking about paying ourselves less, ”he says.
In general, according to her, the workers who will enter the labor market in a decade will be even different.
“Parents will influence them even more than they do now.
Children will live longer with their parents. School will return home, university will return home, housing will be more expensive. Parents will have a great influence on choices, studies, and jobs.
Furthermore, these children, like no other generation, have and will continue to have health problems that their parents did not have. This is again a difficult thing in the job market. First of all, it is mental health, ”said L. Duksaitė-Iškauskienė.
