The professor recalls that AstraZeneca was considered the most reliable and highest rated in the vaccine development stage. “I have been interested in COVID-19 vaccines from the very beginning when it came to the need to develop them. I have thoroughly analyzed the modalities used to develop the different vaccines and have no reason to doubt the reliability or efficacy of AstraZeneca. Studies show that two weeks after the first vaccination, two out of three people are protected and three weeks after the first vaccination. And then it will be time to get vaccinated also for the second time ”, says L. Mažylis.
L. Mažylis is glad that the vaccination against COVID-19 has already started in Lithuania in the age group of 65 years and over. “Priority vaccination of the elderly is very important, because everyone has the possibility of getting sick, but we can see in the statistics that the elderly have more difficulties to overcome the virus. Therefore, I suggest that, as long as you are invited to receive the vaccine, you must accept the vaccine. “
When asked if they were afraid of the possible side effects of AstraZeneca, prof. L. Mažylis points out that all vaccines can cause side effects. “In my early education, I have a PhD in chemistry and I am well aware that side effects can come from all vaccines, not just COVID-19,” emphasizes the professor in the natural human response to vaccines. “But these are usually short-term signs, and in the long run we have many examples of how vaccines have saved humanity from all kinds of pandemics.”
A member of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety stresses that it is not the vaccine that you have to fear, but the virus. “Too often we emphasize the fear of quarantine or vaccines against the virus. But the world is still in a pandemic, and the virus is a direct physical threat to human health. For this reason, I was vaccinated, I invite others not to doubt or be afraid ”, shares L. Mažylis.
The professor points out that the time and place of the vaccination is very symbolic: on the eve of March 11, a member of the European Parliament received the vaccine at the vaccination center located on March 11, Kaunas Ice Palace. “I am delighted that the European Union is showing solidarity. This gives us equal access to COVID-19 vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency. Therefore, I encourage and invite the Lithuanian people not to fear vaccines and take advantage the opportunity, because it is the only way to overcome this pandemic, ”said Prof. L. Mažylis.
