KUL is on the rise with COVID-19: beds are almost full

During the last week, the number of COVID-19 patients at Klaipėda University Hospital has almost doubled. The mayor of the port city, Vytautas Grubliauskas, did not hide that the situation is very serious. The reserve will have to be mobilized in other medical institutions in the near future.

Other hospitals will have to help

Yesterday, V. Grubliauskas spoke with those in charge of the port city and regional hospitals remotely for almost an hour and a half about the possibility of placing COVID-19 patients elsewhere, not just at the Klaipeda University Hospital (KUL).

There are about 120 coronavirus beds in this facility, but there are still a few days left and they will be filled.

There is no place or time for tricks.

“The situation may not be completely critical yet, but very close. An important issue is the coordination of the situation between medical institutions both in Klaipeda and in the region. I will remind you that KUL is a COVID-19 cluster hospital, which is the main combatant on this front. Klaipėda Republican Hospital, and then – Šilutė Hospital and others, “V. Grubliauskas told the portal.

No time to mock

The meeting was attended not only by heads of hospitals from the city, but also from the entire region.

The most delicate issue is that only critical and more serious patients should be referred to KUL, as indicated in the order of the Minister of Health.

“There are cases, and unfortunately none of them, when moderate and mild patients are always referred to KUL, avoiding the main concern for themselves. This cannot be the case. Therefore, I asked, and the chief physician of KUL , Vins Janušonis, recalled that if the most serious patients will soon have to be treated in the chief doctor’s office, because there will be no place to physically lie down ”, said V. Grubliauskas.

The time when he will have to contribute to the reserve forces in other hospitals is a long way off.

The mayor made a sad joke realizing that the enthusiasm was not visible in the eyes of other hospital managers, but the day was inexorably approaching when there would be no more chance to hide behind someone’s back.

“Today we talk about the fact that there is no time for similar discussions. It is gratifying that Šilutė Hospital has prepared a reserve of beds for COVID-19 patients. We are all fighting in the same state and fighting the same threat. There is no place no time for tricks, “said V. Grubliauskas. .

Beds fill up quickly

Less than a week ago, 53 COVID-19 patients were treated for COPD.

According to yesterday’s data, 86 hospitals are already being treated in the Infectious Diseases Corps.

Seven patients are in the intensive care unit, two of whom are on artificial lung ventilation.

Two patients with COVID-19 infection died during the day. All had comorbid chronic illnesses.
