The case, which had public repercussions, began to be known on the merits on September 30. The defendant told the court that he understood what he was accused of, but added that he did not admit his guilt because, according to her, everything happened involuntarily. The Kaunas woman agreed to give her testimony in court only after all the other participants in the process had been questioned. In this case, the prosecutor supporting the state attorney’s office read the indictment and the court began questioning the victims.

The defendant’s daughter and son-in-law gave their testimony in court remotely. The victim constantly recounted the circumstances of the incident. The young woman stressed that she did not want her parents to attend her wedding because she knew that her mother, who had consumed alcohol, could behave inappropriately. However, the spouse has convinced her that the parents should attend the celebration. The woman said that on the wedding day, the guests were festive, played various games, alcohol, according to her, was consumed in moderation, some participants of the wedding party did not consume strong drinks at all.

The defendant’s daughter stressed that the alcoholic beverages were kept in the refrigerator and the mother said that she had consumed the alcohol. The victim said that on the second day of the wedding, the mother began to behave aggressively, having to be restrained by the victim’s father. The defendant’s daughter said the guests went to bed around 3 p.m., a couple of hours after everyone had fallen asleep, she smelled acrid smoke.

The woman began to wake everyone, some rescued the small children, others rushed to put out the flame. As the victim claimed, when attacking the field, he saw a mother sitting on a swing with a smile on her face. Stuck in the memory of the daughter, the mother spoke the words at that moment: “Rejoice that I have no gasoline …”

According to the case data, the crime was committed on the night of September 21, 2019, on a farm located in the Telšiai district. According to the file, the accused IP, being intoxicated with alcohol, knowing that people on the second floor of the building, including their relatives, young children, deliberately placed a cardboard box with glassware on the gas stove, various plastic waste, closed the gas taps and set these flammable objects on fire, thus deliberately setting a fire in the kitchen on the first floor of the house.

However, according to the indictment of the case, IP did not put an end to its crime through no fault of its own: the victims woke up, liquidated the fire and thus escaped.

Kaunas was also accused of damaging foreign property in a universally dangerous way, as the flame destroyed the stove, oak table, decorative brick wall, wooden ceiling, floor, and various items. During the fire, the owners of the farm suffered damages of more than 2000 euros.

On the fateful day in September, a wedding party for the accused IP’s daughter and her spouse was held at said estate. According to witnesses to the event, the property was rented for 2 days for the family celebration. When a drunken Kaunas woman lit a flame in the kitchen on the first floor of the house, among the guests sleeping on the second floor were close relatives of the accused IP: his mother, daughters, young grandchildren, son-in-law, others. participants of the celebration.

In the early morning of September 21, the General Assistance Center (BPC) received two reports of an accident on said farm, the callers reported a fire, said the woman who caused the fire was behaving inappropriately and threatened with burning all the children in the house with gasoline.

One of the witnesses, the defendant’s daughter, told officials during the pre-trial investigation that a wedding had taken place between her and her husband on the farm. According to the woman, after consuming alcohol, her mother started a conflict with her friend and children who attended the wedding. When passions subsided, according to the witness, around 3 p.m. everyone went to sleep.

In Paris, around 6 o’clock, according to the girlfriend, she smelled smoke in the room and opened the door and saw that the hallway was choking in smoke. She woke her husband, screaming and rushing to wake the guests sleeping in the other rooms. During the pre-trial investigation, one of the investigators from the Telšiai Police Station, working at the scene, claimed that the accused PI was aggressive at the time and did not speak. According to the official, the IP did not enter and was examined by the doctors, they resisted, then the police handcuffed the IP and then the aggressive woman was taken from the burned village to the hospital.

During the preliminary investigation, the defendant presented several versions of his case.

IP denied trying to kill the guests sleeping at the wedding party. She said that she had been beaten by a son-in-law on the day of the incident, which shocked her. According to the defendant, he wanted to call a doctor for help, but could not find his mobile phone. And after starting a fire in the kitchen, he hoped the activated smoke detector would wake guests from sleep. The defendant added that he started the fire to save himself and his health.

In one of the surveys, IP claimed that she did not drink alcohol at the party, only that, according to her, she tasted hornet honey on the second day of the wedding. He had no intention of killing 11 people. IP admitted guilt of family property damaged during the fire, saying it had compensated for the damage immediately.

At the next court hearing, the court plans to question the victims further, including the owner of the house where the wedding banquet took place, and four witnesses called to court. The court plans to question a total of about 10 witnesses.
