A few minutes before the 10th night, in the center of Kaunas, on Exhibition Hill, traffic is blocked and hundreds of people in various, often even very unusual costumes, march up the mountain. the city is shaken tonight by the Fluxus festival.
Residents are encouraged to unleash their creative powers and feel like artists when creating their outfits, so they don’t really limit their fantasies – from easily recognizable masks to reincarnation into mystical creatures. Whoever is upside down, whoever is reciting in verses and whoever is exercising or climbing the ladder.
The costumes of many participants also encode today’s themes, including the red carpet, as if “MY Crown” is taking the podium to the Exhibition Hill.
“This year is about the crown, it is relevant to MY Crown, in other words, crown, 2020 and all crowns with the same intention, this is a very hidden idea: the red carpet and the MY Corona 2020.
This route is not accidental, Jurgis Mačiūnas, the godfather of the Fluxus movement, once lived at the foot of the Exhibition Hill and then left for America. He is one of the most famous Lithuanians in the world in the 1970s, who laid the foundations for contemporary art. Climbing, as the coordinators of this year’s march say, is a journey from the capital of temporary culture to the modern one, which Kaunas will become in 2022.
“Today creativity is taking place, with this festival we say that everyone is an artist, and we encourage you to do so by climbing the mountain of the exhibition,” said event coordinator Simona Savickaitė.
“It’s a real change, our entire city and I think people have been preparing for it for a long time, and you see it. I think this is the most beautiful community initiative there can be. “
The Fluxus march, which floods Kaunas with its noisy fun and carnival spirit, is organized for the third time.

The organizers say that this year Fluxus surprised much less with its ingenuity: about 400 participants. In previous years, more than a thousand have also gathered.
