There is information on the Internet that the Humanitas bookstore, which has been operating in the Old Town for many years, has closed. The inhabitants of Kaunas assure that now there will be no normal bookstore in this historical place of the city, there will only be a commission in the Old Town, where books can be found.

In the social network, the inhabitants of Kaunas only complain about the “closure of the Humanitas bookstore. This bookstore operated at the intersection of Vilniaus and M. Daukšos streets. Everyone knew the red brick building and the bookstore that inhabited it.

Some netizens recalled that in the past there were about 20 bookstores in the Old Town, and now this corner of Kaunas has been abandoned for books. The townspeople were very saddened by the news of the closing of the bookstore and wondered who would settle in this place.

According to Facebook users, it will be even sadder if the bookstore is replaced by some non-exclusive clothing store.

“When I hear such news and things like that, I am glad that I have to live in a different world,” said a Kaunas resident who made no secret of her sadness.

“The only bookstore with such a large selection of art books, albums … Sadness,” said another.

“It’s really a bookstore where you wanted to look at all the covers for a longer time, flick through the books and just stay,” one internet user said of the Humanito bookstore.

Others recalled saying that the culture was retreating from the old town of Kaunas. The people who spoke in the discussion felt that Kaunas may no longer need good books, so the bookstore was forced to close.

“Terrifying. What painful news! This is my favorite bookstore … Without it it would be really sad. I remember that I closed the Old Town post office in the city hall and nothing good was left in its place. There is really nothing with the culture, “said another compatriot.
