Starting tomorrow, Mindaugas Baršys, who has been the head of the Marijampolė County Police Chief’s Police Station for the past three years, will be the Kaunas County Police Chief. As already announced, he won a selection a few weeks ago for this position, which had not had a permanent host for almost a year.
Considering the situation in the country and the focus of the coronavirus found in the Kaunas County Main Commissariat (AVPK), Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla will present his new chief to the Kaunas County Police remotely.
It is symbolic that this happens on the anniversary of the scandal that shook Kaunas AVPK. On October 9, 2019, Donatas Karalukas, head of the 3rd Division of the Economic Crimes Investigation Board, was arrested at his workplace, after which eloquent changes began in the police station, which also affected the heads of other Kaunas AVPK boards. Elanas Jablonskas, the head of the Police Department’s Immunity Board, who is conducting this pre-trial investigation leading to this series of scandals, has been temporarily appointed to head the commissariat. According to the Attorney General’s Office, which is leading the investigation, it is expected to be completed later this year.
As has already been written, it was E. Jablonskas who was defeated by M. Baršys as head of Kaunas AVPK in the selection announced this summer.
It is believed that such a decision of the commission, headed by the General Commissioner of Police R. Požėla and composed of the leadership of the Police Department and the heads of the structural units, was determined by the fact that M. Baršys has worked in almost all police services.
M.Baršys, 38, from Tauragė, graduated from Mykolas Romeris University with a master’s degree in law. His experience in the police force is almost 20 years. M. Baršys began his service there as a police officer in the Convoy Chain of the Public Order Branch in the Tauragė District Police Commissariat. He worked for seven years as a police officer in the Mobile Police, a Patrol Brigade patrol, a main patrol of a group of district inspectors and a criminal police investigator. In 2008, M.Baršys was appointed Principal Investigator of the Organized Crime Branch of the Tauragė County Police Chief Commissariat, and a year later, the head of this entire department fighting Samogitian gangs. After nine years of dealing with them, M. Baršys became the deputy chief of the Tauragė County Main Police Station. And six years later, he was appointed head of the Marijampolė County Police Station.

Speaking after the victory in the selection to the leaders of Kaunas AVPK, M.Baršys did not hide that one of the reasons for participating in it was that he had been living in Kaunas for a year and a half. “Therefore, safety in Kaunas is important to me,” emphasized M. Baršys at the time, stating that the desire to lead the Kaunas County Police is related to the opportunity to grow and that he too has the right qualities. .
Another connection of M.Baršis, who according to the horoscope is Aries and likes to play sports and read books, with Kaunas is that he graduated from the Kaunas Police Faculty of the Lithuanian Law University nineteen years ago.
