Kaunas Municipality does not stop ambitious construction plans on Nemunas Island

ELTA has announced that the Science Island project developed by the Spanish and Australian company SMAR Architecture Studio is distinguished by unique architectural and design solutions, but “at the same time, the building will integrate perfectly into the natural environment of Nemunas Island, popular with the people of Kaunas “.

In the spring of this year, the construction of underground communications to the future facility – water supply networks, sewerage and district heating began. When the municipality decided that another bridge to Nemunas Island was needed, construction began on a 57 m long bridge that connects Avenida Rey Mindaugas with the island, suitable for cyclists and pedestrians and for transporting objects from the island. .

A few months ago, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports A. Monkevičius approved the funding of the Science Island project. The total value of the project was established at 28.6 million. of which 18.2 million euros – European Union funds.

The Autokausta company won the tender for the works contractor announced by the municipality, which indicates the construction value of Mokslo halls – 24.3 million. and promised to build the facility in two years.

In the final stage of construction will begin the production of the exhibition that will fill the spaces of the “Island of Science”. His concept was developed by the Polish company Multimedia Art & Education, which has extensive experience in this field. According to the representative of the Municipality Arnoldas Bukelis, the “Island of Science” will consist of a permanent and temporary exhibition, which is updated annually, a space for virtual projections and laboratories adapted for students. The total area will reach 10 thousand. square meter. In the interactive center, visitors can become acquainted with the discoveries of science and technology and the achievements of today.

“It is already clear that the exterior of this building will not leave anyone indifferent, but the true treasures will be waiting for visitors inside. This museum is simply meant to become a center of attraction, ”said Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis about one of the most ambitious projects in Kaunas.

It is expected that “Mokslo sala” annually receives as many visitors as there are inhabitants in Kaunas, about 300 thousand.
