According to representatives of the Kaunas municipality and the police, there are no physical possibilities to install checkpoints on all roads leading to the city. Therefore, it was decided to repeat what had to be done before Easter: some roads were blocked with concrete blocks.

Paulius Keras, head of the Kaunas Municipal Emergency Operations Center, mentioned that 13 sections of the road have been blocked in this way since Monday morning, and their release is scheduled only next year, on January 4.

Although the general inspection of the cars has only just started, officers patrolling the city for a few days before the Kaunas “closure” stopped the cars and asked the drivers where they were driving. “Our goal is to keep the smallest number of inhabitants possible to move from one municipality to another. I would not like to specify how many positions there will be, how many officers will work in them, because their number will change, everything will depend on the current situation, ”said Chief Police Commissioner R. Stukas.

According to the official, not only will the stationary police stations operate, but they will also patrol mobile and mobile teams of officers.

Mobile poles will be installed in the district municipality surrounding the city of Kaunas, where officials will also stop cars and ask about the purpose of the trip, verifying the validity of the move.

In total, about 250 checkpoints will be installed in Lithuania and about 1.5 thousand will be used to ensure control of movements. police officers.

According to the Police Department data, 670 police teams will be on duty next weekend, and another 250 teams will be at checkpoints, so 920 teams will patrol all weekend in Lithuania. On ordinary days, not holidays, 750 crews will be on duty. An additional 60 police teams will work to control movement between municipalities, who will verify the legality of the movement.
