R. Karbauskis calls on the declaration of the head of state Gitanas Nausėda in an interview with BNS that he will not necessarily appoint a representative of the party that has received the most seats as prime minister, and will apply a strict filter to the candidates for ministers.
“I just understand that it is just a question of the presidential couple, how determined the president will be, and I will be very tough in the choice of ministers. The problem is that the president does not want to elect a conservative minister if the conservatives are not in. the coalition, and the people must understand that, ”R. Karbauskis told BNS on Friday.
“If the people vote for the conservatives, yes, the ministers will be conservative, if the people vote for the ‘peasants’, the party will delegate ministers, and it doesn’t depend on whether the president wants to or not. Here, the will of the people who are going to vote, and which the president will have to respect, by allowing coalitions to form. If a coalition does not form a majority, it will not form a coalition, “noted R. Karbauskis.
In an interview, President G. Nausėda stated that in the negotiations on the new composition of the government, he would present his specific political agenda, which is already being finalized, and would not necessarily appoint a representative of the party with the most seats as prime minister. “I am an active president in national politics and I am different from my predecessors,” said G. Nausėda.
Commenting on the president’s speech, Gabrielius Landsbergis, president of the Union of the Homeland of the Opposition-Lithuanian Christian Democrats and leader of the opposition, states that “if the voters trust the Union of the Homeland to form a government, we would respect the Constitution and we will take into account the position of the president. “
President G. Nausėda also asked the parties to announce their ministerial candidates and, after the Seimas elections, members of the Government promise to approve only if they are convinced that its provisions are in line with their welfare state program.
R. Karbauskis takes the position that the president’s call for the parties to announce their candidates nominated for ministers does not apply to the “peasants”, because they already have a government in office and the labor ministers would be candidates for other positions. .
“For us, that statement from the president is probably not very valid, because we have ministers in the ministries, I have not heard any comment from our ministers. (…) We have one of the best governments in Europe, it is a fact that the economy is the best in the European Union, and everyone recognizes it, even the president himself ”, said R. Karbauskis.
The peasant leader also stressed that the governments are in coalition, and it is currently impossible to predict what it will be like.
“We cannot say what the coalition will be like, but now we have a queue of ministers working, if necessary, at Seimas we really have a team that has a lot of experience that could really fill various positions.” I believe that the President does not take us into account so much, but rather the parties that are not in power, that do not have ministers in the Government ”, said R. Karbauskis.
“There will be coalitions, and what is going to happen will be decided by the voters, I understand that perhaps the president does not want the Union of Greens and Peasants to be in that coalition, here is his will, each one has his own vision, but if we are in the governing coalition and we form it, we will propose those ministers that we think will work successfully, ”said R. Karbauskis.
The candidates were nominated by the Liberals
The main political parties have nominated their candidates for prime minister and the Liberal Movement has published a full list of their planned cabinet.
“Valstiečiai” nominated Saulius Skvernelis, the current head of the cabinet of ministers, as a candidate for prime minister, the conservatives appoint the former Minister of Finance, Member of Parliament Ingrid Šimonytė, Lithuanian Social Democratic Party – its president Gintautas Paluckas, Labor Party – party leader – Viktoras Uspaskich MEP Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen. Recent opinion polls show that these are the top five in terms of popularity.
Of these parties, almost all the planned Cabinet of Ministers has been announced by the Liberal Movement. G. Landsbergis, the head of the Lithuanian Christian National Democratic Union, says his prime ministerial candidate I. Šimonytė would meet “could win a strong and competent cabinet of ministers with the confidence of the electorate.”
“We have put together a solid, solid and professional electoral program that solves the main problems of the economy, education and health of the country. It was prepared by many competent politicians together with the best Lithuanian experts in various fields, who could also take on greater responsibilities. We have the strongest candidate in Lithuania for Prime Minister I. Šimonytė, who we have no doubt that after receiving the trust of the electorate, she could assemble a strong and competent cabinet of ministers, “says G. Landsbergis.
