Kamala Harris’ husband will become the first “second gentleman” in the US.

K. Harris and D. Emhoff got married in 2014. It was their first marriage and their second. The two will also be the first mixed race couple in these positions. He is white and she is the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants. They are both 56 years old.

The general lines of Emhoff’s role as “second gentleman” will have to be drawn. He himself has so far spoken rather vaguely about his plans.

Traditionally, the second presidential and vice presidential parties are expected to strike a delicate balance between support and independence. Many participate in charitable activities.

Considered a “secret weapon” during his wife’s election campaign, Emhoff is an established attorney specializing in media, sports and entertainment law.

In August, he suspended work for the international company DLA Piper, which has lobbying offices in Washington, to avoid raising questions about potential conflicts of interest for Harris. So far, Emhoff has spoken rather vaguely about whether he will leave the company, although he has hinted that he could take so-called pro bono cases.

Emhoff will also become the first Jew to belong to America’s first or second family. Friends describe him as a Jew who does not follow very religious rules, but is still strongly associated with Judaism, which has greatly influenced his formation.

D. Emhoff was born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey. He claims that he likes to remember Jewish summer camps, where he has also received awards for sporting achievements.

When Doug was in high school, his father moved the whole family to Los Angeles, where D. Emhoff studied law at the University of Southern California. He later worked for various law firms and eventually landed a job at DLA Piper.

Emhoff met Harris during a “blind” date with friends and said it was “love at first sight.” Her children from their first marriage call their stepmother “Mamala”.

The future vice president also gets along well with the husband’s first wife, Kerstin Mackin, who even celebrates Thanksgiving together.

By the way, the future “second gentleman” has one thing in common with the outgoing president of the United States, Donald Trump: they both love to play golf.
