The excitement increased the excitement and the blood of the participants was heated not only by the idea that the result on the short gravel road of 11 kilometers, spattered with sand in some places, will determine the starting position during the first speed section , but also that the delay will be multiplied by four.
The objective is to force the runners to raise the accelerator pedal and avoid the tricks they can perform to avoid starting on Sunday in Sunday and condemning themselves to roam the speed tracks of the first speed section (according to the organizers).
The Dakar Punk duo crossed the prologue starting line at 1:57 p.m. Lithuanian arrived on time, and finished after 7 minutes and 12 seconds, ranking 48th, but before the start I had to deal with an unexpected problem.
Standing on the starting line, the crew turned on the intercom equipment and realized that it was not working.
The teammate had to get out of the car and look for replacement cables.
“We started out with a little bit of stress, because when I started driving Darius had just finished wearing his seat belts. It was exciting until we caught up with our pace, but it was a lot of fun for those 11 miles.
Lots of turns, lots of quick spots, lots of places to stop – a real speed stretch “dakar”, it’s a shame it’s too short. It was important not to make money today, and on Sunday there will be another story.
Now we shoot at our own pace, fun and easy. About 3 kilometers from the start, I got dangerously off the track path, and there was already a huge pile of stones in front, so I managed to dodge them through Mary’s hair and we were able to break the circle there too.
After that, I decided to lose some speed and finish calmly, ”said pilot Antanas Juknevičius after the prologue.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Although it is a prologue, it is still the first speed section of the Dakar 2021. I did not even feel that we had passed. In fact, it would be desirable not to earn money every day in Dakar”, – Darius Vaičiulis, the navigator of the KREDA team, shared his impressions, coinciding with the runner.
The Dakar participants, 40 miles from the finish line of the prologue on public roads, were waiting for the last procedure, in the same complex of the King Abdullah Sports City stadium, where the Dakar participants had been visiting for several days.
The silent roar of the proud sports engines that broke the prologue and the impressive long line of the Dakar tech parade can only mean one thing: all the formalities have been completed and the long awaited moment has dawned in Dakar: a solemn ceremony at the podium.
As the second year of their stay in the Middle East began, the participants took the podium ready to storm the Dakar Rally, considered the toughest desert race in the world.
The KREDA safari-style car marked with the number 329 stood out in the hustle and bustle of technical sounds. Behind him are Dakar legend Antanas Juknevičius, who will participate in this race for the 12th time, and his co-driver Darius Vaičiulis, 5 years old.
In the first stage, which awaits participants on Sunday, Dakar participants will encounter a 277 kilometer stage, and the KREDA team will line up on the first official starting line of this year’s Dakar stage, tentatively, in position 48, ready to assault the difficulties that await them.
The 2021 Dakar Rally will take place for the second time in Saudi Arabia from January 3-15. KREDA Team Leader: Antanas Juknevičius is Lithuania’s most experienced athlete who has finished all 10 Dakar. The driver improved three times the best result in the category of cars belonging to the Baltic countries. In 2018, A. Juknevičius was officially recognized as the Dakar Rally Legend by the organizers.
