“I am going to go on a hunger strike, demanding that the law be observed and that a doctor be allowed to come see me,” Navalnas wrote on Instagram.
He added that he received no medical attention and said he had back and leg pain.
Last week, lawyers for this prominent Kremlin critic reported that Navaln’s health had deteriorated.
The 44-year-old, who is serving a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence in the infamous Pokrov colony, immediately complained that he had a nerve and a numb right leg. An Instagram message posted on Wednesday says that her left leg has now also lost feeling due to back pain.
At that time, the Vladimir Regional Board of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) stated that “based on the results of the inspection, his condition is assessed as stable, satisfactory.”
The members of the Commission of the Public Observatory of the Area (ONK), who visited A. Navalnas in the neighborhood, in turn said that he complained of pain in his leg but that he was able to walk.
Authorities say Navaln may be trying to escape. Last week, he claimed that prison staff woke him up eight times a night and reported that he was still in his cell.
On Wednesday, Navaln complained that instead of receiving adequate medical attention, he continued to be “tortured by not allowing him to sleep.”
In August last year, an attempt was made to poison the most prominent critic of the Kremlin with the nerve-crippling substance Novičiok. After the poisoning, he was flown to Germany for treatment in a coma.
After returning to Russia in January, Navalnas, 44, was immediately arrested and sentenced to prison the following month for violating the terms of a probation sentence imposed on him in 2014 in a case of fraud and embezzlement while receiving treatment abroad.
His arrest sparked mass protests and his imprisonment in February on allegations of embezzlement sparked outrage from Russian and foreign human rights groups and condemned Western governments.
