“We understand that the pandemic situation is not simple and the testing processes are not easy, the willingness of municipalities to conduct the test is different, but the number of students who returned was very surprised,” said J. Šiugždinienė at the statement from the ministry.

“Only about 3,000. The return of students from grades 5 to 11 this week means that a large number of municipalities have taken the easiest and most unexpected route: no schools, no classes, no students have returned to the banks. I hear him say he’s not “learning” to go back. It’s shocking and sad, “he said.

Only about 3,000. The return of fifth through eleventh grade students this week means that a large proportion of municipalities have taken the easier and more unexpected path.

He also says he was surprised that some schools didn’t even survey students’ parents to see if they would agree to take the test. Or it was based solely on the opinion of the children themselves that they did not want to go back to class.

“There are many parents who want their children to study in the classroom, but they do not have that opportunity due to the decisions of the municipalities or the schools themselves,” said the Minister of Education.

According to her, the government, in response to the municipalities’ request for self-selection, decided to allow each municipality to decide whether students from grades 5 to 11 study in a mixed way or at a distance, since the situation of the pandemic differs from a municipality to another. .principle for students of different grades.

“Most of the municipalities, exercising their right to make a decision, have decided to do nothing. While we all understand that even a few weeks are important for students’ emotional health, children need live contact. If it is not possible to invite students to classes for the remainder of the study period before the start of the vacation, opportunities can be found to meet for at least a few days. I sincerely thank the municipalities, schools, teachers who did a lot of preparatory work and invited the children to the classes, ”said J.Šiugždinienė.

The minister also calls on parents to allow children to take the test, which will allow children to safely attend schools that offer a blended learning approach.

BNS announced on Monday that the government had decided to stay in distance education until the end of the school year, when the government allowed students in grades 5 to 11 to return to schools starting Monday.

In a survey conducted by the Association of Municipalities of Lithuania, 26 out of 43 respondents stated that they would not return students to classes completely at the end of the school year. Among those who have decided in this way are the municipalities of Šiauliai and Klaipėda, but also in other large cities, the return is planned in only a few schools.

Sixteen municipalities indicated that students from fifth to eleventh grade would return to classes in part, that is, in at least one of the schools, although in several classes. The fact that in all institutions only contact or mixed training will be applied was reported by one – the Kretinga district municipality.

The government has allowed the resumption of education in these classes in schools only on the condition that these students and educators are regularly screened for COVID-19.

Most municipalities allege that it has been decided not to renew contact education because parents do not agree, and a majority of municipalities that have indicated that they have agreed to renew contact education have also indicated that they will only do so in some schools and only in a few classes.
