The long-term team and the marketing manager and the CEO who has been the CEO since May left Vilnius “Rytas” Julius Sarapina. He joins the Euroleague organization, where he will assume the position of competition director.

J. Sarapinas, who has worked at the club for over 7 years, shared his thoughts on the current situation of the club before leaving. The former Rytas CEO spoke about declining club debts and sponsor deals, what it takes to move forward, and what the capital’s basketball fan community wants.

– How does it feel to leave an organization?

– The feelings are many and varied. It is very unfortunate that when I returned to Rytas after my race break, I had not yet worked with Rolandas Jarutis. Because we quickly find a common language and form a good tandem with it, the stakeholders, the board and the administration and work together.

We have done a lot in a short time, but we need to stop everything and go somewhere else. But there are also good feelings, because I leave the club at a positive point in the club’s life. Everything goes up and improves, so there are problems, but do not sweep with a broom under the carpet, they are solved. And leaving the club as the situation improves is more fun than the other way around.

– Considering all the presence in the organization “Morning”, what is the financial situation of the club now?

– Perhaps it would be difficult for me to comment on this, because when I started my career in the Vilnius club, because then I did not contribute to financial management. But now, knowing what the situation was with regard to debts and how they are managed. Agreements and calendars have been established with partners, sponsors, so I would like to thank everyone who sees and understands the situation liberally. Together, we made the decision to return them not through the courts, but according to a schedule that the club follows and will follow in the future.

The debts are there, but the situation is improving, this summer those numbers in the club account were really positive, of course, they were not wasted, but were used for specific things: to close debts and all the responsibilities. Yes, there is an ongoing financial audit now and I think the club people will present all the figures to the public in about a month, but it is all going in a positive direction.

– What is most important to Rytas now?

– Maintain stability. The plan that is now in force: both financial and teamwork, debt payment plan. Because what has already started is going in a positive direction. One of the great jobs of the summer is to form a good team. On the business side, there are subscriptions, we are working hard on that now and we are planning to roll them out, memberships are an important part of both the fan attendance arena and the team budget. And as for the upcoming season, it’s about reaching your budgetary, financial, marketing, commercial and sports goals.

– What would you like a person to replace you in this position?

– Peace, consistency, unhurried decision making and, of course, flexibility, which is very important in this position. Because situations are diverse, you must be able to resolve them. A good management team has been assembled and I am a little sorry for that work, but I think the other person will join and everything will be very good.

– What will you do in the new stage of your career?

– I’m going to the Euroleague and the position of competition manager. There is one person in each league who is responsible for ensuring that teams create a good technical product and that matches are carried out as they should, and that teams meet all league requirements in accordance with regulations.

– A wish for the entire basketball community in the capital?

– I wish the community a little more patience, understanding, because everything will be really good. And overall, I wish him victories not only on the basketball court but also off the basketball court.
