In early August another newcomer from Kaunas “Žalgiris” arrived in Lithuania. A Frenchman has already introduced himself to the Lithuanians playing at the Žalgiris stadium Joffrey Lauvergne.

The tall man, who came to Kaunas from France, began working individually in the gym and on the basketball court and gave his first interview to the Žalgiris TV team.

The team’s rookie, who has spent the last two seasons at the Fenerbahche Club in Istanbul, spoke about his time spent in quarantine and the help of legendary French basketball player Tony Parker.

“I’m not a guy who likes to run outside very much, but when I was quarantined in Istanbul, going out and running was the best part of the day. Nothing special: I was at home with my wife, we had time to do unusual activities.

The first few months were fun, but it took longer than planned. Then I went back to France and trained there in the gym. While getting permission wasn’t easy, Tony Parker gave me permission. Thank God I know him, “said the Niggie player who played in the NBA.

J. Lauvergne will be far from being the first Frenchman in the history of the “Žalgiris” club. Most recently, Leo Westermann and Axel Toupane played here. Not surprisingly, the center forward discussed the move to Kaunas with them.

“It’s funny that those two guys were playing here. Leo is my best friend and we grew up with Axel for about 7 to 12 years. We lived together in the same town, in a real town. We’ve seen it every day, so it’s funny how small the world is.

When I found the apartment online and sent it to them, they told me to take it asap because I couldn’t find a better option. We also talked a bit about basketball, but a lot will change after Shar. And as always, we will keep in touch, ”said the 28-year-old basketball player with a smile on his face.

After signing a contract with the Lithuanian champions, J. Lauvergne was happy with the opportunity given him and revealed the details and the story of the first conversation with the team captain Paulius Jankūnas, who is behind the message published in the social networks in Lithuanian.

“Paul is a good friend of Leo, and when Leo played here and I called him, he was always there. I also played against him in the national team and in the Euroleague, so we met. He wrote me that he was happy to come to the team and things like that and told me to put that text. I was hoping there was nothing wrong with that, because I put it on social media at the same time, ”the experienced player laughed.

“I loved the opportunity. This is the Euroleague and the club wants to give me an important role. Žalgiris is a great club. It is also important for me that it is a good organization. Sometimes it is good to be in an organization that tries to make the most of the skills of a player. Even before calling Paul, I knew a lot about the team from Leo. I knew the travel conditions, the local Lithuanian championship, the city and everything else. Everything was good for me, “said J. Lauvergne about his decision to play in Kaunas.
