I dreamed of being high school rockers.
“I’m Damian, and when I grow up, I want to be a rock star,” Damian David, the band’s lead vocalist, once wrote in the grade school notebook. An interesting fact is that the guy with the word “rock” forgot the letter “k”.
And in fact, he became a rocker, since a few years later he sang the first notes of this style of music on the Ariston stage in Italy, not forgetting his unique image and approach to certain aspects of life.
In a post on a social network, his former coach Manuel Agnelli, who sponsored the band during the X Factor project, mentioned that Damiano was “claiming his own musical and non-musical personality.” And although they did not get first place in the project, their name managed to surround the whole of Italy and the fan base grew more and more.
“Young, beautiful, talented and somber” is how Italians describe Måneskin. But are they really like that? You will soon see for yourself.
Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio are in their 20s with a rock vocation and seem to have been born on stage. Their story began in 2015. At first in high school, Victoria met Thomas, and then Damiano and Ethan joined them. The quartet began to play together and decided to form a band in honor of the famous bassist Måneskin. It turns out that in Danish this word means “moonlight”.
The band became popular at lightning speed from clubs in the suburbs of Rome to live performances on the famous Via del Corso and the X-Factor 2017. It would seem that it was just a small leap in music towards a successful career, but even that was enough for the band members to win the hearts of teenage fans. So, with the Sky music company, the members’ careers only gained momentum.
And by the way, it shouldn’t surprise you why they became so popular so quickly. It seems that not only their works, but also the hits of famous artists of the world were heard at the group’s concerts. Do you know The Killers? That’s right, Måneskin used to remember his songs during his concerts.
Tickets are swept at cosmic speed
Måneskin, who declared himself a rocker, went on his first tour, where tickets were instantly exchanged. Later, the band released a short album, Il Ballo della Vita. One of the albums intertwines different vocal timbres: here you can hear sounds of rock, pop and electro.
At the center of the story of each song is a woman named Marlena, who, according to the members of the band, represents not only beauty, but also freedom of choice, attitude, style, which four rockers want to talk about.

And so far, every single one of his songs ranks at the top of the charts, every show at an incredible rate. But there is nothing surprising here, the band became popular not only because of the “X Factor”, but also because of the popular music festival “Sanremo” in Italy, where it took first place.

Does Måneskin copy famous rock bands of all time?
Still, let’s not forget that if there are many fans who adore them, it is the same number that they do not like. Some compare the band members to bands like Greta Van Fleet, Gentle Giant or 2010 Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac. And there are those who boldly call the music they create “the great Italian-born rock and roll cheater.”
Still, the members of the Måneskin group reacted quickly to this criticism and explained what music they were actually making.
“Our way of making music goes back to the 1960s and we go back to the 2000s. The style is inspired by the Rolling Stones and the Doors, just to name a few small names. We arrive at the “X Factor” scene with the stigma that we are disgusting and arrogant. In part, this is true.
We are coatti in the sense that we are not afraid of anything, even if we are young. We are not afraid of meeting someone much older than us. We are completely normal teenagers who think that our own lives are too small ”, said the members of the group after being accused of fraud.

Live image: from black lacquered nails to smoky makeup
In addition, the bright image of the rockers became their bright image: black lacquered nails and shadows around the eyes, fishnet stockings, leather pants and Damian latex shoes. It is this outfit that takes the place of his fan. Of course, some of this image can be shocking, but when you hear the first words of the works, even the most timid ones change.
And the whole image was inspired by the seventies, created by the band’s stylist Nick Cerioni. His style is described as being based on baroque and old rock and roll clichés. So if you saw details in the style of Jimmy Page, David Bowie, Mick Jagger or Iggy Pop, you weren’t wrong at all, that’s what the stylist relied on.

By the way, other details were needed: leather pants, gold, silver, animal prints, latex, fur, and many more style solutions from that period. And no member of the group has a problem wearing women’s clothing. They chose a style that does not express either gender. It’s a soft, free, gender-stereotypical, rock-themed style that is retold in the popular movie Velvet Goldmine.
The only one in the group who stands out with his long hair is only drummer Ethan, who reminds fans more of an American than an Italian. And at the time, Damian boldly describes himself as a “fashion gypsy.”
So what will Måneskin’s future be like now? Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, he released the singles Vent’anni and Zitti e buoni, a new album. The rock world seems to have gained a new member that can reach music fans not only in Europe but all over the world.
