Although officials are trying to act quickly, but a queue of cars forms, it is necessary to plan a trip out of the city in advance. And do not forget to collect all the necessary documents to justify the trip. Photo by Stasys Žumbis
There is no purpose to punish
Police spokesman Ramūnas Matonis assured that the imposition of such restrictions is not a criminal measure.
“It is not their intention to punish as many people as possible. The aim is to reduce the movement of cars and people. Therefore, there were no people punished at the posts, but in a couple of days they were not allowed into the cities Lithuanians of about 600 cars. Mainly, to Palanga, where stationary checkpoints have been installed since Wednesday, “said R. Matonis.
Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla, pleased that there have been no more serious incidents or cases of disobedience so far, noted that police tolerance also has limits.
“The order is there, you have to follow it, so if there are people who will try to circumvent the posts on forest roads or meadows, they will have Christmas” gifts “starting at 500 euros,” warned R. Požėla, clarifying that not only will the cars, but and intercity buses.
Preparations were made for the change of order
Police officers also assured those heading to Vilnius in Avižieniai that the drivers were behaving in an orderly manner and that no incidents had been recorded, at least as of midday on Friday.
“On the one hand, everyone knows the order, on the other hand, there is not much to do for personal purposes. Grocery stores are everywhere and clubs are not everywhere,” officials said aloud. According to them, the peak car flows were Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and now the situation has returned to normal.
The words of the officials were also confirmed by the drivers interviewed. The young man, who did not want to appear, said that he does not experience any inconvenience due to the restrictions, he only needs to verify that all the documents have been collected when leaving.
Dainius, who handled business matters, and Audronė, who delivers goods to customers, spoke similarly. The woman herself lives outside the capital, but while customers wait for the merchandise, she has prepared the route she has been on.
“I drove like a normal day, I just had to prepare more responsibly,” Audronė said. “And the recent restrictions on the mobility of people are good, I think, and I hope they are useful.”
An unexpected surprise
Of all the drivers interviewed, Yuri, who only has Belarusian citizenship but currently works in Lithuania, did not understand why there were so many officials on the road and why he stopped him.
“I don’t know anything, nobody noticed that the driving order would change. Here only today, or on other days in power? Until the New? What if I am only working here, where can I get the necessary documents to release and get admitted? “- the Belarusian was obviously upset. After explaining the situation, Yuri said that he would not only prepare for the upcoming weekends, but also warn others who work here and probably also Belarusians who are unaware of the changes.
