According to Ramūnas Skaudžius, the government should make the final decision on this in the near future.

“As far as we know, the earliest could start this Thursday at the earliest, and at the latest on Monday after a week,” the deputy minister told LRT Radio in an interview.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports declares that children who live in families that do not have enough resources, social skills or motivation to provide adequate conditions for children to study at home could return to school.

Children would continue to learn remotely, but as long as they are in school. Municipal administrations would ensure that these children received distance education, care and meals in educational institutions.

According to the deputy minister, the staff who will take care of the children will have to decide on self-government and the teachers will continue to work remotely.

According to the Ministry, 25 thousand. students need support for learning: additional advice, provision of computer equipment, provision of Internet connection, strengthening of motivation. About half of these students receive free meals and families receive social support.

Egidijus Milešinas, president of the Lithuanian Education and Science Union, told LRT radio that some municipalities already allow students to study in kindergartens.

He called on the government to make sure teachers are vaccinated against the coronavirus so they can return to school more quickly.
