The possibility of wearing face shields in open spaces will be considered, Health Minister Aurelius Veryga said Tuesday at a press conference.

“It is suggested that in open spaces, where people do not meet, do not choose, the obligation may be waived. But the refusal would not apply to places where people are in closed spaces,” said A. Veryga.

“As long as such a requirement remains (wear masks – BNS), I wouldn’t dare guess,” he added.

According to him, wearing masks outdoors would be only a recommendation.

According to the minister, when the weather warms up, wearing face protection becomes a bigger problem for some people than the coronavirus itself.

“We hear that dissatisfaction, of course, it is human to quickly forget all the problems. As Lithuania has done well in virus control, more and more people are emerging who think that the virus does not exist at all,” he said.

“Let’s understand that the implementation of any measure does not depend on how many police officers will be on the streets, but on how many people will notice and observe themselves.” If we see that society no longer adopts certain measures, it is impossible to implement them, then it probably does not make sense to apply some measures anymore, ”added A. Veryga.

Nose and mouth protection is mandatory in Lithuania from April 10.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the quarantine has been announced in Lithuania since March 16. It currently runs through early summer.
