157 years ago, after 1863-1864. In revolt, Tsarist Russia forbade us to write in Latin, that is, in Lithuanian characters. Four decades later, in 1904, this right was restored to us. But again today we must fear for our most archaic and therefore unique living language in Europe. Similar to the Indo-European proverb now deceased.

Once again, we have to defend our alphabet from the letters “w”, “q” and “x”, which are completely unnecessary for the pronunciation and writing of the Lithuanian language.

Be that as it may, no other nation has had an activity called a bookbinder. It was not an activity carried out by smugglers from other border nations. Our people brought light to their Nation.

And now that? Do Lithuanians still need the light of their mother tongue? Lithuanian media really? Will we gradually give it all away to foreigners?

The philosopher and writer Arvydas Juozaitis, speaking of those three unfortunate letters that are obsessed with Lithuanians, answered the following:

“You see, Vincas Kudirka has already said everything about those three letters, and Jonas Jablonskis has said everything. There is a constant problem of the Lithuanian language here, and now its attack has intensified due to globalism, due to dual citizenship, etc.

The Czechs did not add foreign letters to their language. We borrow some letters from their alphabet.

Latvians also protect their linguistic identity very strictly. Last names written in foreign letters are still written and read in Latvian, and the entry in parentheses or on another page of the document is in the original language. V. Kudirka, the creator of our state anthem, suggested doing what “Respublika” has been doing consistently for 30 years.

When nationalities are mixed in the family, the surname in the original language could be written on the second booklet of the passport. Even in Chinese. Or not only in Latin characters, but also in Cyrillic. Because currently in the European Union, Bulgarians and Greeks write in Cyrillic. Everything is solved with the second passport card “.

– Now the spelling of even those foreign surnames is distorted where it can with our alphabet. For example, the French director Michel Hasanavicius of Litvak origin. After all, it would be possible to write for Mišelis Kazanavičius. And instead of Shakespeare, it’s just Shakespeare.

– When the language is visible to the eye but not pronounced, in practice it is already dead. These are the words of Justinas Marcinkevičius. He also asked the Lithuanian Language Commission to protect our language. He offered to go to the central bookstore and read the names of the writers themselves. They themselves would not read the names of those authors. This is surrender. It is the delivery of the beggar to the civilized world, but he neither deceives himself nor does others rejoice in him.

– That delivery, that beggar mentality is already in almost every step. Even serious university professors, not to mention young people, use foreign words in their Lithuanian texts on Facebook. podcast, speech, identify, segment, a construction that is not typical of us – “have a good time”, and I noticed “common sense” in particular.

– Whoever says “common sense” does not have common sense, because “common sense” is a value of common sense. People sometimes act like little kids in the garden when everyone wants to appear tougher than everyone else. The insertion of foreign words is a sign of an inferior culture. This shows that the person belongs to a lower culture.

– It is a shame that we are so vulnerable to the influence of foreign languages. It’s Slavic syntax breaking through, it’s English!

– There is nothing to regret. There will always be an attack. It will take us a long time. That plague will have to be endured and survived. Unhappy that our language is unique. It must be defended as a global asset. Lithuanian is the oldest state language in Europe today. We should put up signs at our airports and stations: “You have arrived, you have arrived in the oldest-speaking European country!” We should be proud of our language and not beg for bigger countries.

– Logically, the more millions of people in the nation whose mother tongue is German, French, Chinese, the less valuable these languages become. Because they are huge. There is no danger of extinction. After all, the Red Book also includes the endangered animal or plant species, and therefore the most valuable. What is more valuable in nature in this regard: frequent quartz or rare diamonds? Like the national press – unique, own, therefore – more valuable.

– But flies and cockroaches remain even after nuclear war (laughs, aut.past.), And small languages and small states are the beauty of the world. The Roman Empire was so vast, encompassing everything, that there was no room left for human life. And we must respect our booksellers a lot. They made our state. From that Lithuanian language and our state was born in the 20th century. That is why we are. And we could speak Gudian, Polish. After the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, a linguistic decline had already begun and the control apparatus did not speak Lithuanian.

– And that denial of the Lithuanian language lasted hundreds of years! Until even a completely illiterate and destitute nobleman, merchant or craftsman was ashamed to speak “poor”, “musical” Lithuanian. Germanization took place in western Lithuania and polonization elsewhere. And now, again, the denial of his speech. Even companies, hotels, clubs are called in English. And this is not what dark people do, but the current “elite”!

– That’s why we have to bow to the booksellers. Only thanks to them we are both Lithuanian and we have the state of Lithuania.
