According to tut.by, journalists waited for official information about the faulty equipment throughout Monday. This is the first failure of the Astrava nuclear power plant. The official opening ceremony took place last week.

“The reason for the shutdown is the explosion of several voltage transformers designed to change the voltage in electrical circuits. The units were connected to a transformer,” said a source from tut.by.

“Formally, nothing happened at the nuclear reactor, and a similar event was previously recorded at the Leningrad nuclear power plant. However, research and testing will take a long time,” said the source at the nuclear power plant.

According to him, transformer manufacturers will have warranty claims. The power plant will not produce power in the near future.

The Astrava nuclear power plant, which was connected to the power system last week, will no longer produce electricity as of noon on Sunday, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid confirmed to BNS. However, the reasons are unknown.

Experts say, as tut.by writes, that the safety of the reactor was not compromised and that such incidents do not lead to radiation leaks.

On Monday evening, the Belarusian Ministry of Energy officially announced that the commissioning process of the first unit is continuing. “This phase tests different block modes at different power levels. The system is also tested when energy is reduced, ”the report says.

The unit is also reported to be undergoing testing prior to full connection.

We remind you that on Saturday, Lukashenko, visiting the power plant, allowed to increase the capacity of the reactor to 400 megawatts.
