The Champions League final, which was scheduled for Saturday, May 30, will likely move to a location where the remaining stages of the tournament will be played, according to reports.

Such a solution would allow UEFA to avoid unnecessary logistical problems and protect teams from travel and possible coronavirus infection.

Turkey has currently banned all international flights, although the coronavirus situation in the country is not so bad compared to the main western European countries, with more than 163,000 COVID-19 infections and 4.5,000 deaths in Turkey.

However, a source close to the AP news agency suggested that UEFA plans to resume the season in one place and that it is unlikely to be Istanbul.

It is said that one of the main priorities when choosing a city will be local accessibility, and with Turkey completely closed, it is clear that getting to Istanbul by the cream of European football would not be very easy.

The situation of the coronavirus in the selected city will also be taken into account, as well as the possibility of complying with the quarantine conditions and evaluating the soccer players by COVID-19.

UEFA’s decisive decision should be announced on June 17, when the fate of not only the Champions but also the European League will be announced. The final of the latter was scheduled for the Polish city of Gdansk and took place on May 27. UEFA is expected to complete both tournaments in August.

On one occasion, the Champions League final was already played in Istanbul, in memory of many in 2005. In the final match, Liverpool eliminated the 3-goal deficit and defeated AC Milan after a series of penalties.
