In Vilnius, voters turned out to vote as soon as the districts were opened

“The voting is going well. We see a stretched line at one of the early voting places in Vilnius, Lukiškės square,” on Monday after 7 pm Laura Matjošaitytė, chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC), told BNS.

“I am glad to have received the interest of the voters already in the first hours of the vote. “All the early voting places started to function smoothly, the voting continues,” he said.

Lukiškės Square is one of the five early voting points established in the capital.

“Part of the voting room is reserved for the voters of the city of Vilnius, the other part is for the remaining voters. A person receives a ballot, goes to the taxi, votes, leaves, ”said L. Matjošaitytė.

“It is thought that some go in one direction, others in another. Voters do not mix at the polling station, the flows are regulated, ”he said.

According to the CEC president, voters have heard calls to wear protective gear to cover their nose and mouth, have their own pens, and keep a safe distance.

Preliminary voting in the Seimas elections began at 7 am, polling stations will close at 8 pm. Early voting is possible for four days.

Voters are asked to go to the polls with masks and their own writing instrument, not forgetting their identity document. For those without a mask or pen, it will be given on the spot.

During early voting, the will may be manifested at any place in the early voting, regardless of the registration of the place of residence. On Sunday, Election Day, it will only be possible to vote in the electoral districts of your constituency.

There are more early voting places in these Seimas elections, in some municipalities it will not be possible to vote in the municipal building itself, as has been the case so far.

Of the three largest cities, only in Vilnius early voting also takes place in the municipal building, at that time in Kaunas and Klaipėda voters are invited to vote elsewhere.

In Vilnius, residents can vote in advance without a municipal building on Konstitucijos Avenue at the Vilnius University Health and Sports Center in Saulėtekis, A. Sakharov Square near the Press Palace in Viršuliškės, the District Municipal Building from Vilnius on Rinktinės Street and Lukiškių Square.

In Kaunas, voting takes place at the Kaunas City Hall and Cultural Center on Kęstučio Street. There will also be no voting in the Klaipėda City municipality, it will take place in the Fishermen’s Palace.

The Vilnius District Municipality has also provided four polling places: in addition to its building on Rinktinės street in the capital, it invites voters to vote in Nemenčinė, Švenčionių str. 12, Rudamina, Vilniaus street. 2 and Lavoriškės, Liepos str. 9.

It will be possible to vote at home in pavilions 9 and 10. This year, not only disabled people over the age of 70 who cannot go to the polls, but also people who care for the disabled, as well as residents who are have diagnosed or suspected a coronavirus or have had to isolate themselves from contacts, they will be able to vote at home.

The Seimas elections will be held on October 11.
