In the morning, Santa Claus, who came to town for a short time, visited the municipality and congratulated municipal staff on the upcoming vacation. The mayor of the Varėna district municipality, Algis Kašėta, presented him with a large envelope with many letters addressed to Santa Claus from young residents of Varėna. Santa did not stay here, he was quick to thank the mayor and symbolic gifts to institutions, organizations, business representatives and residents, who created a festive atmosphere with their ornate trees and alleys.
A special thanks for their dedicated work went to the physicians during this difficult time. He also visited and on behalf of the mayor thanked Alfonsas Stoneliūnas from Panočiai village, who donated a wonderful silver fir to the city this year.

Before that, a good works campaign “Let us light up the Varėna fir together” was announced in Varėna. Young people from Varėna were invited to participate in the Christmas card contest, and residents – to create a decoration for a common Christmas tree decorated by the residents of Varėna.
Before lighting the Christmas tree, Mayor Algis Kašėta announced the winner of the Christmas postcard contest: first place was won by 11-year-old Armina Kašliejūtė, second by Amelija Puodytė, 6, and third by Austėja Lasauskaitė, eight years old.

In the evening, Santa Claus reappeared in the city, and together with Mayor Algis Kašėta, the municipality lit a beautiful Christmas tree. Mayor Algis Kašėta said that this year waiting for the holidays is different, we have to protect ourselves and others, therefore, he could not congratulate the residents of the Varėna region with the upcoming holidays by the Christmas tree :
“Congratulations to you, dear ones, with the next most beautiful holidays of the year, thanks for your communion and friendship to all those who, with their small and large works, overcame challenges, decorated the Varėna region and created a good mood throughout the year. Thanks to the institutions, organizations, companies that responded to the invitation to decorate the Christmas trees in the alley.
