In the Netherlands, five new cases of blood clots have been reported in women aged 25 to 65 years who have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca. One of these patients died.

“It just came to our notice then. That is why it is now wise to press the pause button for all the anger,” Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said in a statement.

The pause will last until April 7, when the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to issue a new recommendation in this regard, the minister added.

Germany has taken similar steps earlier this week, the Health Ministry noted.

The Dutch Medicines Council stated that the cases of blood clotting problems found were similar to those recorded in other European countries.

“It just came to our attention then. Of course, because a relatively young person has died, ”said a statement from the president of Boero.

It was planned to inject about 10,000 next week. doses of vaccines to Dutch health workers under the age of 60, but these plans have now been frozen, the public health service GGD said.

“The immediate reason for this decision is large-scale thrombosis combined with low platelet counts after vaccination with AstraZeneca,” the agency said in a statement.

The EEA said Wednesday that it still considers AstraZeneca to be safe and that no specific risk factors such as age, gender or comorbidities have been identified.

However, the Amsterdam-based supervisory authority said it will issue an “updated recommendation” next week after the safety committee meeting.
