“We believe that the decrease is not related to the decision to choose alternative ways of arrival, but to the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, simply fewer visitors and especially groups of tourists who go to Neringa by bus,” said E. Šakalys.
According to him, 926 buses with more than 30 seats entered in the first six months of last year, and only 44 this year. There were also fewer buses with up to 30 seats, 49 this year and 380 at the same time last year.
“Furthermore, since March, the border has not been crossed through the Nida control border checkpoint. As a result, there were no participants from the Kaliningrad region at all, both foreign travelers and those simply traveling in transit.” explained the director of the municipal administration of Neringa.

In response to higher-than-planned car traffic, it was decided to increase the seasonal entry fee for cars. This year, from June 20 to August 20, it amounts to 30 euros, ten euros more than last year.
The municipality expects the two-month increase in the number of cars to reduce their traffic, encourage the arrival of alternatives, and that the amount of money raised in the budget will remain unchanged compared to last year.
According to E. Šakalys, no proposals have been submitted so far to increase the toll and there is no talk of increasing the entrance fee next year.
