The surprises do not end at the Kaunas Regional Court, which investigates only a small part of the crimes attributed to the Kamuoliniai group. But before that, some antidotes have already been found.
The shadow of medical corruption
One of these “bombs” was tried by Judge Algirdas Jaliniauskas in the case only at the end of a new hearing this week after the break. And again he had to be discouraged. One of the reasons was the enigmatic illness of one of the lawyers who defended two of the seventeen defendants.
Various ailments of other participants in this case, which was recognized as a priority, had become a reason to delay it in the past. As a result, A.Jaliniauskas applied to the State Accreditation Service for Health Activities under the Ministry of Health. It was asked whether medical certificates had been issued on the basis of the ailments of two convicts awaiting trial in this case, which had led to the postponement of the scheduled hearings.
The answer was that unscheduled inspections revealed a series of irregularities in the issuance of these certificates. And the company “Pasirink”, owner of the Kaunas Family Clinic that issued one of them, was even warned about it.
According to A. Jaliniauskas, as the aforementioned lawyer, due to whose mysterious illness he failed in this week’s meeting, he also usually presents certificates from the same institutions where the violations were found on his short-term illnesses for two or three days, it was decided to apply to the mentioned service. and a certificate that was presented to you in court. And A. Jaliniauskas offered his defendants to use the services of attorneys appointed by the state, which will be found by the court.
The defendants disagreed and stated that they would take better care of the health of the lawyer they had so that he would not cause problems again. This ambiguous statement in the context of the prosecution, which in this case planted up to seventeen balls on the bench, caused laughter not only from the defendants themselves but also from other lawyers who defended them.
Giedrius Janonis
Scandalous rehearsal in The Hague
Not long ago, after the publication of the 200-page indictment in this case, it became clear that among the prosecuted victims was the former world bush champion Remigijus Morkevičius shot at an apartment building in Šilainiai in December 2016.
It turned out that among the possible convicted victims was former bushido world champion Remigijus Morkevičius, who was killed in December 2016 near one of Šilainiai’s apartment buildings.
Giedrius Janonis, the leader of the bullet group, is accused of instructing seven subordinates armed with firearms to teach R. Morkevičius five years ago before the aforementioned still undisclosed shooting, in the summer of 2011. This was associated with revenge against a member of the Kamuoliniai group, MP, who not only disregarded their leaders, but also defeated G. Janonis’ own relative. At that time, R. Morkevičius was staying with the deputy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands – The Hague.
When G. Janonis was tasked with breaking the MP’s hands, shooting him in the legs, injuring his spine and cutting off his ear when he left for the Netherlands, seven “torpedoes” were instructed to wound R. Morkevičius, who was with the.
After receiving 4 thousand. For travel expenses of 1 million euros, the task force drove to the Netherlands in two cars, taking the firearms belonging to the group. However, the task was not completed there, since, waiting for the ambush, only MP went out into the street, who was shot four times, seriously damaging his health. He was sentenced to prison, as was G. Janonis, pending Artūras Osmankinas, nicknamed Osama, and Regimantas Jonušas, who is currently serving a more lenient arrest warrant. The weapons they used during the crime were dumped into a nearby water channel.
It was not possible to summon a deputy as a victim to the Kaunas Regional Court. “I live abroad and I cannot come,” he said in an email during each of those attempts, which ultimately led to the decision to release the MP’s testimony during the pre-trial investigation.
Avoid confrontation and others
The request of another victim in this case, AP, to be questioned remotely was also granted.
According to the indictment, the AP was beaten and robbed, following the instructions of G. Janonis and another Ball leader, Tomas Gaidanka, in November 2011. This task was carried out by four of the defendants, who received a car with a foreign registration.
There was a long wait at the AP apartment building, waiting for a comfortable moment: wearing masks and listening to a radio station. AP kept showing up not alone, but with a friend. At least the accomplices of the car in the car were reported by one of four future AP assailants on duty across the street, including a radio station.
Finally, after reaching a convenient time and attacking the AP, it became clear that the task could not be completed to the end because the victim was without a chain and without a watch, which he had ordered removed. As a result, after beating the AP, they seized a gym bag and a handbag from it. The AP wallet was also evicted, where 3,100 litas could be found to share at the crime scene.
The prosecution in this case, which has been stalled in the Kaunas Regional Court for nearly nine months, is also based on the testimony of those who agreed to cooperate with law enforcement.
One of them, nicknamed Bebro, also asked to be interviewed using videoconferencing equipment. “Due to the tension and stress of attending the court hearing, it would be problematic: at the end of April a pre-trial investigation was launched into the threats against me and my family members. I am exempt from criminal responsibility in the main case, a part separated from the one heard in the Kaunas District Court. About 30 years old, she also appears in that case, “said the witness mentioned in his application, which was received by the Kaunas Regional Court two and a half months ago.
Half of the accused are in a cage.
“Kauno diena” wrote that only six episodes of his criminal offense were involved in this case transferred to Kaunas Regional Court from the main Ball Group case.
Three completed in 2010-2011. The same is true for 2017-2018. The latter are mainly related to the results of the searches that accompanied the widespread arrests of soccer balls in April 2018.
T. Gaidanka, Deividas Čereška, Andrius Juodis, Genadijus Ževžikovas are also awaiting the sentence of the bars together with G. Janonis, who has been convicted twice before (the first in 1992, when he was a minor), A Osmankin and Gennady and Roland Borisov.
The remaining nine defendants in this case: Tauras Grinius, Andrius Guoga, Justinas Jašinskas, R. Jonušas, Mindaugas Lukauskas, Eligijus Maželis, Marius Navickas, Nerijus Venslavičius and Edgaras Meizeraitis, who came to this case with the North Korean leader in a mask, are currently on the run. .
The charges against them range from illegal deprivation of liberty through organized groups and physical violence, attempted serious damage to health in a universally dangerous way and serious damage in such circumstances, theft, use of firearms or kidnapping of high value property, serious damage through torture or other ill-treatment. , illegal possession and smuggling of firearms abroad for the purpose of committing a crime there, falsification of documents and their kidnapping or use for criminal purposes.
None of the seventeen convicts pleads guilty. And so far only one of them has been convicted: N.Venslavičius. Others have already been tested five times. And their convictions have been announced not only by the Lithuanian courts, but also by the German, Swedish and Norwegian courts.
