Justina Petravičienė, a public information specialist at the Vilnius Department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), told the Delfi portal that the man’s body had been found in an apartment in Šiauliai, where he had recently lived.
“Generally, all deceased persons whose cause of death is unclear are also examined for coronavirus so that forensic experts know which personal protective equipment they should work with,” explained J. Petravičienė why it was decided to examine the body Ukrainian.
The interviewee said that the person was found without signs of life at his home. The police then ordered forensic experts to examine the body and a sample was taken from the deceased for COVID-19 disease.
“The disease was confirmed to him after his death, so our epidemiologists were unable to carry out an epidemiological study and we have not collected any data on that case,” explained J. Petravičienė.
NVSC specialists do not have data on whether the Ukrainian lived alone, nor do they know his state of health before his death.
“The person was a Ukrainian citizen who did not have a family doctor in Lithuania, so we do not have data on his health history,” said J. Petravičienė.
However, there is no doubt that the cause of death was COVID-19. This was confirmed by forensic experts.
