“This year’s Christmas tree lighting festival is unique in that it brought together the people of Rokiškis who have spread to all corners of Lithuania and around the world; if the pandemic involves their plans to return home for the holidays , they could at least do it virtually, stay in their city.
We are trying very hard to make the holidays no less festive this year if we sit comfortably on the sofa, so even before the Christmas tree came, all the cultural institutions of the city delighted the people of Rokiškis without leaving home.
When the Christmas tree is lit, the virtual surprises do not end: we will send virtual musical greetings every day, we will broadcast Advent organ concerts every Sunday, ”says Vaiva Kirstukienė, director of the Rokiškis Cultural Center.

The top of the Rokiškis Christmas tree was decorated with an impressive star, the template of which will be shared by the Rokiškis after the Christmas tree is lit and they will be able to decorate the windows of their homes with it.
Next to the main spruce, an alley of spruces has become a beautiful tradition: the residents of Rokiškis and the companies located here annually donate these trees to the city, which are used to restore the parks after the holidays.
Independence Square near St. Matthew’s Church housed an impressive-sized oak brooch with figures up to two meters high. Saulius Lampickas, Adolfas Teresius, Rimantas Zinkevičius, Artūras Janickas, Gintaras Varnas, Eduardas Titas and Kęstutis Krasauskas created renowned Lithuanian folk artists during plein air at the Rokiškis Regional Museum.
After the holidays, the prakartė will not only complement the accumulated collection in the museum, but will also travel through urban public spaces, churches, other cities, and hopefully represent Lithuanian folk art in other countries.
The celebration of the lighting of the Christmas tree on Friday night was accompanied by live paintings placed in different parts of the city, all of them shown during the live broadcast.
The painting next to the Christmas tree was intended for the youngest of the Rokiškis, another colorful vivid painting that shone in the Town Hall Square, and next to the Rokiškis Regional Museum, the third living painting called The Christmas of the Counts invited to start the festivities. This manor house, where the museum is located, becomes a place where Santa’s brother settles after the Christmas tree celebration and waits there for a whole month.
Rokiškėnai was able to visit all the places virtually during the live broadcast, and the most impatient, who necessarily wanted to see everything live, had the opportunity to do so by passing a car and without meeting. Exceptionally, only on the home screens could children see Christmas itself, and moms and dads learned what Christmas Rokiškis has to offer the whole family even at such an unusual time.
By the way, Santa Claus promised that those who celebrated at home by protecting themselves and others or did not get out of cars and did not gather in city squares would receive bigger Christmas presents.
