Panevėžys, not for the first time from the main cities of the country, was almost the first to announce the beginning of the Christmas period. After a yearlong hiatus, the city’s main Christmas tree shone again in Freedom Square this year. Along with Santa Claus, it was illuminated by the mayor of Panevėžys, Rytis Račkauskas.
The mayor wanted to stay healthy and safe
The mayor of Panevėžys R. Račkauskas, who lit the Christmas tree, did not hide that he had never had to light it remotely. “As they say, there are always generations, I hope it is the last. The townspeople gathered near the fir tree
All the villagers were asked to be aware and not gather by the Christmas tree for their own safety and that of others. However, a significant number of residents decided to observe the lighting of the Christmas tree in Freedom Square.
People from Panevėžys who came across the city fir wore protective masks and tried to keep their distance.
