468 samples were analyzed in the laboratory of the Santara Clinics of the Vilnius University Hospital (VUL SK). Of these, 387 cases are assigned to line B.1.1.7. This variety represents 81% (135/167) of Vilnius, 91% (96/106) of Kaunas, 62% (23/37) of Klaipėda, 81% (34/42) of Alytus, 90% (18/20) from Utena, 87% (26/30) Marijampolė, 86% (30/35) Panevėžys, 86% (6/7) Tauragė, 90% (9/10) Telšiai and 69% (9/13 ) Šiauliai county VUL SK samples analyzed this week, or Sample 1 is not yet assigned to any county. Furthermore, here 1 new case of B.1.351 and 8 cases of the B.1.620 virus line were identified.

1047 samples were analyzed in the reference laboratory of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), of which 913 cases belong to line B.1.1.7. These cases represent 90% (812/898) from Vilnius, 70% (7/10) from Alytus, 60% (22/37) from Utena, 71% (15/21) from Šiauliai, 61% (14/23)) from Klaipėda and 100% (3/3) The distribution of the last samples analyzed by the Kaunas County ECDC and 40 samples has been adjusted so far. Likewise, in this laboratory 1 new case of B.1.351 and 21 new cases of the B.1.620 virus line were identified.

24 samples were analyzed in the laboratory of the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU GMC), 15 of them belong to line B.1.1.7. These cases constitute 100% (7/7) of the last samples analyzed in Vilnius, 100% (1/1) in Alytus and 44% (7/16) in Utena County VU GMC. Likewise, 8 new cases of the B.1.620 virus line were identified in this laboratory.

NVSPL no longer publishes the distribution of the B.1.351 and B.1.620 strains by counties, because sometimes the declared place of residence of a person does not coincide with the actual place of infection and then it seems that the mentioned strains are more widespread in Lithuania than they really are. The chain of infections and the circumstances of the infection can be clarified and epidemiologists can assess the actual current situation.

To date, a total of 7016 samples have been sequenced and 3534 cases of virus lines B.1.1.7 and 14 B.1.351 have been detected in Lithuania, according to the sequencing project coordinated by NVSPL. New varieties B.1.620 detected 61 cases. It is too early to assess the danger of this last variety.

“Although this strain worries me as much as many of my colleagues, we have no further knowledge about it and we cannot say anything more than B.1.620, probably similar to B.1.351 and other strains not yet detected in Lithuania, you will be able to avoid the immune system more successfully. Response resulting from a relapse without strains without the E484K mutation or after vaccination. I want to emphasize that this means a greater chance of becoming infected through a new disease or vaccination, but that says nothing about the severity of the infection. We cannot say anything about the changes in its transmission or the severity of the disease caused by the first disease. We will not have this information for a long time, because so far we are the first country in the world to deliberately fight against this variety ”Wrote genomic epidemiologist Dr. Gytis Dudas.
