The illuminated pedestrian bridge connects the central town square and the Gruževskis manor house, a surviving unique wooden architectural masterpiece that is currently being rebuilt and will soon be open to the public.

Shining Kuršėnai started the Christmas journey

First of all, the play of light and colors woke up the Gruževskis manor house, illuminated the trees of the old manor park and the expressive compositions of the old white posters. The laser lights and the flames of the fireworks welcomed the new pedestrian bridge, considered by the country’s architects as one of the most impressive and beautiful works that connect the two banks of the Venta River.

The impressive new 262-meter-long pedestrian bridge, which brings light into the city, was driven by a team of medieval LT kojūkininkai, creating a special atmosphere and festive celebration. Torches carried by the Kojūkininkai lit up the central square of Laurynas Ivinskis, the monument to Laurynas Ivinskis, the pioneer of the Lithuanian calendar, and the Kuršėnai Christmas tree lit up.

This year, the city public and guests could not directly participate and live in the Kuršėnai spruce lighting, only the mayor of Šiauliai district municipality, Antanas Bezaras, the elderly staff, culture and equipment of specialists from Kuršėnai supervised that everything went well.

One of the longest pedestrian bridges in Lithuania is a special object of attraction and aesthetics.

This Kuršėnai Christmas is special because of the very important news: on December 4, a 262-meter-long, exceptionally designed pedestrian bridge over the Venta River was opened to the public. During construction, the new bridge was considered by the country’s architects as one of the most beautiful pedestrian bridges in Lithuania, combining natural materials, modern architecture and well-organized access to the Venta River.

The new pedestrian bridge over the Venta river is a connection between the two banks of the Venta river, a connection between the current city, the modern town square and the history of the city – the Gruževskiai manor house, which is being rebuilt and revived , and the old solar park. It is also a connection between people, lonely and communal, political and apolitical, who love today’s city and respect its history, who live here and come as guests.

The bridge was built in a year, and almost three years have passed since it was first thought that it was necessary to revive the town of Kuršėnai, the Venta River, and create a special attraction. During all this time, the bridge has been in the spotlight of the public, architects and the media for many reasons: it is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Lithuania, it is of exceptional construction, with observation decks and interactive islands. Extraordinary finishing elements have been selected for this bridge, the bridge integrates naturally into the exclusive landscape of the Venta River, the city and nature.

The Kuršėnai pedestrian bridge is also exceptional because it is specially illuminated, it is durable and the decoration is made of a very fashionable material in modern architecture – cortene.
