In Klaipeda, the infection has been forgotten: at the Sea Festival – crowds of people

– Is the passion for this job strong enough that you try to learn to put makeup on with your left hand? Or maybe it’s not a job, just a hobby?

– This is my main job right now. And once I worked on precision, I studied automation, so now I even see how to apply makeup through the prism of precision. I have loved makeup since I was young. Only in those days there was not much, neither the means nor the opportunities to improve in courses and seminars. We learned from each other. Initially I graduated as a cosmetologist, but I finally realized that I wanted to specialize in makeup. After having won first place in one of the makeup competitions in Paris, I started my career with this beginning.

– You mentioned that you received your first baptism on television when Nomeda’s new emerging shows needed an image teacher.

– I received a job offer on television very unexpectedly. I worked there all the time while filming the “Nomeda” program, and then grew up with hosts and guests from other shows. Together I would teach (and continue to teach) the basics of makeup and image design at Kaunas Medical College. Many famous makeup artists these days have passed through my hands. Some became very serious specialists, others did not. But I can confidently say that in the field of makeup, our students are not overlooked: they constantly win awards in competitions in their field.

– And besides all this, as if you still had some of the previous activities, did you both start a beauty salon with your daughter?

– Why not? She is a hair specialist, I am a makeup artist. Great tandem. But eventually, as with probably all jobs, the routine came up. Every day, casual makeup could no longer satisfy my thirst to create something else. The regular makeup trends put me in a frame, and I wanted a different image, more interesting details … So every now and then I went to a workshop to create hats. They taught us to make fantastic crowns from flowers, to apply makeup to them. It was then that it all started …

Step by step, you head towards that final and most perfect option you think. Stickers, pasted, placed, change the original idea …

– From the creation of crowns, did you go to a fantastic makeup that would supposedly satisfy your ego as an artist?

– I started making crowns, creating fantastic images for women and looking for photographers to immortalize it. So I unexpectedly met Mantas Grims, with whom we have been doing projects of this type for several years. The most interesting thing is that in this creative process, we can never predict the outcome. It changes throughout the photo shoot. Step by step, you head towards that final and most perfect option you think. Stickers, paste, put in place, change the original idea … I love this job for it.

– The fact that not all models are suitable for implementing your ideas. What evaluation criteria do you use to select them?

– If there is a custom photo session, then everything is clear: we work according to the person’s wishes. But if I refer to the fruits of my fantasy (and at the same time, like apples on an apple), I choose the model myself. One that fits my original idea (it doesn’t matter if it changes a hundred times while I work). Perhaps this idea requires a very beautiful head shape or a face with regular features. Or maybe a long gooseneck. I never take a model that has long lashes or long-lasting makeup. I can no longer do much with that face, artificial accessory frame, limit my fantasies.

– Is it true that the best ideas are born spontaneously?

– The truth. We recently had a bespoke fossession with the Gerda Žemaitė TV face. She chose a maritime theme, and when the work started, we really didn’t know what we were going to do and how things would end. Knowledge, as always, was gradually refined.

Once Manta and I came up with the idea for a photo shoot, and while we were working on the model, an allergy to body glue started. We couldn’t stick the needles in his face, so we had to find a way out of the situation in five minutes. The result exceeded the expectations of our entire team. Got into the creative makeup book, foreign press.

Surprising: One of the most famous Lithuanian makeup artists proved that makeup can create true miracles.

And next time we photograph the model with oils. In fact, we didn’t even plan to place the flowers themselves, we just covered the model’s body with bright olive-green paint. But when I sank down, put on the jewelry, I thought unexpectedly that real oils should look great … It was her time. I rushed to call the photographer to bring them.

– Probably a terrible feeling to see that something is wrong with your model: an allergy has started or a shock has occurred, considering whether or not that black paint will wash off your face. Who learned not to get angry in emergencies?

– In most cases, clients don’t even feel that something is not going according to plan during photoshoots. Sometimes it just betrays my trembling hands. And I’m grateful to television for dealing with stress. It taught her not to be disturbed in any situation. Don’t show what’s really going on. Because if you just unconsciously activate the restless button, you will no longer be able to do your job well – your hands will start to shake. And if he still shows panic with his body, the person sitting in the chair will be afraid and will no longer help him to work … Then nothing will come out. Television has taught me that the make-up creator, the image-maker, must learn to accept all surprises calmly and think about what makes good possible. Here you have to force your brain to work fast. And when it all ends, then you can drink champagne (laughs).

– Has your daughter become the hero of at least such a fantastic photo shoot?

– The only time. Once I came up with the idea of doing a golden photo shoot, that is, cover the model’s body with gold paint. I even convinced my daughter to participate (I hadn’t accepted any of my adventures before). So, I bought a special gold body paint that is, and the law of the pigs! – Brutally hard wash. Because all of the paints we use are waterproof, and they were stronger than ever. We even dyed my daughter’s hair … After that, she sat in the tub for a long time, trying to scrub all that gold, and cursed me. Fortunately, he had the healthy idea of smearing oil and going to the sauna; this is how he escaped forever from the image of a golden girl.

The images seen in the mind begin to become the most fantastic paintings of women. It remains to find the time and the girls who would like to become two of my fantasies.

– As I understand it, each fantastic image you create spreads a different message …

– Really so. Only our team still lacks a writer to turn that message into words. I remember thinking about going back to childhood and doing a photo shoot with the spikes. Then, in half a year (since the idea was born in my mind) I bought all the Barbie in the Luggage Market. Then I made the crown with them … The model turned out to be quite brave after all, with that awesome barbie hairstyle and makeup, she even had a date with her friend on the Acropolis.

Confidence: to immortalize the results of your creative work A. Malakauskienė trusts M. Grimas: when you take photos, you can rest assured about the quality of the photos. Photo by Manto Grim.

– And why don’t you see men in your imaging sessions? Are they more cowards, are they not involved, or do you just discriminate them, do not take them on their adventures?

– Ach, men … You have an old pink dream. But show me one that is working and that wants to look different (laughs). And yet it must match one of my ideas … Women are more prone to adventures than similar images. They want to have special photos to remember. But there are also many women interested in such projects and those who have reached the final.

– You mentioned that the adrenaline obtained during the photo sessions gives jazz and daily work. Where do you get the inspiration for your fantastic projects?

– Well, I’m not just inspired to skate (laughs). I react to everything I see around me. From nature to a more interesting interior. Many ideas float online. I follow the work of other teachers. Of course, I don’t even think about copying them. But the images seen in the mind begin to become the most fantastic paintings of women. It remains to find the time and the girls who would like to become two of my fantasies.

– Would you agree to be in the role of the model yourself? Would you be a big star: create many conditions for developers?

– Oh yes, very much. First of all, I didn’t go with anyone. Secondly, I would direct the photo shoot myself and everything should be according to my idea. I still wouldn’t blindly trust the makeup artist, I’d be involved in makeup creation myself. There are no strict rules here, but it can get damaged and dirty quickly. And this job must be clean. And it wouldn’t take any of the photographers. I would choose M. Grim, because when he takes photos, I can rest assured by the quality of the photos. I no longer want to feel the sensation when you take a photo in your hands and see: all your great work has gone to the dog in the tail …

After all, we are employees of the creative front.

Mantas Grimas, photographer

Photography is my old passion. I started taking photos when I was a kid with a movie camera. He had an uncle and an aunt who worked in a Soviet photo studio. I spent a lot of time there. They learned how to highlight, take photos, adjust overexposed areas, etc. And when times changed, I had to teach him how to work with digital when I went to my uncle’s house.

So it’s true, he was still a photographer for class events. When the rush of youth came, all those dance changes, photography was forgotten. I remembered him at work when digital cameras were already showing up and he needed someone to take photos. And since there wasn’t much for anyone, I had to take on those responsibilities. Since 2003 I have returned to my old photographic habits.

I accidentally discovered A. Malakauskienė and the fantastic images of women she created. I took my wife’s cousin to a makeup workshop. I found a model for her and thought I’d take a photo together. I recall that Aušra was the first to apply makeup to such a large spiked crown and took her model outside for photography. I took care of myself and took some photos. That’s how we met.

I learned that such fantastic makeup is her hobby. He also complained that the house has many beauties of all kinds – bouquets, wreaths – just to use it is nowhere to be found. We both decided to take the initiative: look for models, create images, organize photo sessions in free time after work.

I remember perfectly the first joint work with Dawn. We applied the girl’s black body paint and had to stick needles to her face with special glue … And suddenly, perhaps because of her glue, an allergic reaction started. Aušra had to suddenly change her tactics to play with golden details. Now it has become commonplace, well, we agree with Aušra in a way, and when I come, it seems completely different to me. But for the first time, I admit, there was stress. And sometimes, when Dawn is working, a strange thought hits me, and she calls me and asks me to extract oil from underground …

You will not do anything, we are employees of the creative front. We both work not for money, but because we have fun doing it. This is how we express ourselves. This is how each one improves in our field.

Sometimes I make a condition for my future models: I take free photos, but you must do your homework carefully. Prepare the outfit, if necessary: recycle it, sew one of the two garments, find the right accessories. It is a great job that takes a long time. If the model does the task itself, I have to deal with it. It may turn out to someone who is not the photographer’s job. Anaiptol I do a lot of invisible work that stays behind the frame. I am looking for models, clothes, jewelry, space for photography. Let’s say if the project is bigger: I write emails to jewelry makers asking them to lend; for various companies: boning dresses, suits. Then at the end of the photo shoot, I’m going to hand them over. I am excited that we are not dirty and that the varnish does not damage the jewelry. Sometimes that organizing work becomes more difficult than photography.

How to get to our photo session for an ordinary girl? Very simple. I always post selections to my Facebook account. More than 100 panels wrote to me once. Believe me, I honestly reviewed the profile photos of each of them and after selecting the top ten, I sent them to my team: makeup artists, hairdressers, filmmakers.

Sometimes I highlight 500 photos and then I sit for a few hours to be able to select the best ones. I choose a few dozen and invite Dawn to help me decide. And she just waves her hands and screams that everything is beautiful. It’s really incredibly difficult to pick that one millionth shot.

And how long does it take to retouch photos! When the makeup artist covers the model’s face with special body paints, when it dries, it highlights each pair of skins, pimples and scars. This is true even for a model with ideally smooth and healthy facial skin. So what to do for others? For aesthetic images in photos, just retouch. There are photographers who put the call here glaze – Well, such a filter so that the skin texture is not visible and there is less work. But quality retouching is like high pilotage. It must show the texture of the skin: the face cannot be smooth and smooth like any wall.

Now even ordinary girls are overwhelmed: Every day they photograph themselves on Facebook, instagram, post stories on social media. And they haven’t been afraid of cameras for a long time, and if they’re afraid, they don’t come to me. Because I am demanding. I am not afraid to say what a girl has to do. But if the model is strong, I allow myself to pose. I don’t need a lot of poses, but I really appreciate precision. When I turn on the light, I ask the model to slowly turn her head. So I’m looking at what angle my face, eyes, makeup, jewelry, everything looks best.

The idea of such creative photo shoots is not new to the world, but in Lithuania I only know a few photographers and makeup artists who do. As our work has gained momentum for several years, we want to expand, increase the team; We already have a filmmaker, a designer. Maybe one day there will be a lyricist. After all, so many creative people in Lithuania!
