“This is a completely new format, the only farewell house of its kind in Lithuania. In developing its concept, we have in no way sought to break traditions or customs, but by working in this market and having experience in organizing funerals in places not traditional, we have been seeing such a shifting approach to death and such subtle service for some time.

We want to dispel stereotypes that saying goodbye to a loved one should be dark and gloomy. We do not follow the stereotypical thought that it is necessary to say goodbye in silence, we want it to be possible to say goodbye to the deceased as he or his relatives would like ”, Bernardas Vilkelis, director of the K2 LT group, told K2 LT in a press release.

Recent funeral traditions, the needs of the people, and a changing worldview have been key starting points in developing the concept of a modern farewell home.

“We have installed these farewell houses in a completely different way than usual for a funeral home: they are bright, cozy and surrounded by nature. We pay close attention to the search for the plot: we look for an exceptional place, next to the river, which symbolizes the flow of life and the circle of life and at the same time reminds us that birth and death are natural processes. They are always next to each other. The main task of the architects was to take advantage of the advantages of the place, adapting them to the subtle parting experience, ”explained B. Vilkelis in a press release.

He also noted that the well-known concept of a funeral home is not entirely accurate. After all, no one buries the deceased at the funeral home. The concept of the farewell home is much broader.

The new concept of farewell house in Kaunas has a total of four farewell halls, they can accommodate from 30 to 100 people. All the space and movement of people is planned so that one can focus and focus on the farewell ceremony in progress.

In order to let as much natural light into the premises as possible, many large windows were deliberately installed overlooking the Neris, but the interior of the lobby is not visible because the windows reflect light. Privacy is also solved with the design of outdoor spaces: from spring, those who want to breathe fresh air or stay with them will be able to retreat to the park or specially designed quiet spaces with a separate exit from each corridor.

To avoid complicated logistics, there is also a bright room for mourning lunches. Those arriving by car will be able to drop them off at the farewell house, and to and from the cemetery, if necessary, take a special bus. After a sad lunch, everyone can get in their car or choose public transport: the Šiaurės prospektas stop is right next to the farewell house.

The farewell house will open its doors on Jonavos str. 41A, right next to the Eiguliai cemetery, on the banks of the Neris, so it will be easily accessible from anywhere in the city or even from other cities. Established at the entrance of the ring road, it will allow convenient access to other great Kaunas cemeteries: Karmėlava or Romainiai. There are no residential houses nearby, so it will be possible to accompany your loved one in a complete natural environment.

As of February 5, “Rekviem” will be able to say goodbye to the relatives whose remains will be cremated, that is, it will be possible to keep urns in the corridors. An armory service for the deceased will also be offered soon.

In total, up to 1.5 million were invested in this project. euros. This is the first farewell house of this brand, when they bear fruit, it is planned to open similar objects and more.
