This is how those interested in the history of technology describe what is probably the largest vintage car conference “Timeless Classics” organized on the eastern Baltic coast in Biržai every year since 2008.
The old team club Klasika located here has managed to fill a niche of events so successful that if in the first year the guests of Širvintos, Pasvalys, Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Pasvalys or Klaipėda traditionally opened the forum the first weekend of August , the delegations will now come not only from our country, but also from Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Belarus, Germany, Russia.
“Nesenstanti Klasika” has become a kind of Christmas for the owners, restorers and collectors of many of the so-called veterans. There has never been an event so that the best professionals gathered in this field do not enrich each other with useful business advice or fun travel stories.
Of course, for both conference participants and those interested in vintage equipment, the most important thing is what can be seen at the entrances of the museum established on the Sodeliškės mansion farm, later during the parade to Biržai and the exhibition in this aero club. This time, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the universal quarantine and paralyzed a full-fledged life, the Timeless Classics Forum will bring together more than 130 wheeled tricks, from the 1931 Chrysler CD8 convertible to the 1913 Case tractor From the 1933 Renault YN2 to the 1954 Plymouth Savoy. Only cars over the age of 45 (that is, manufactured before 1976) will be at the event.
The architects of the congress of automobiles of unquestionable historical value grouped all the participants into “ancient”, “European”, “American” and “Russian”. It was also decided to form a separate group of Mercedes-Benz and special-purpose machines and trucks to make it easier for curious people to compare what time, what country designers, what technical evolution paths they chose, what engineering fads dictated, what solutions They have survived to this day, and what makes you smile now.
“I couldn’t highlight a car as the ‘best’ because I really respect everyone who comes to our event.” But if we talk about what an ordinary visitor to the exhibition could pay attention to, I would definitely recommend a longer stop and a closer look at the ancestors made in the interwar period.
Let’s say that an interesting and extremely rare Tatra 87 car made in Czechoslovakia in the 1940s will participate in our event for the first time. Even in the context of those days, it looks exceptional: with its elegant forms and elegance, the event will captivate the audience with the Citroen D Speciale from the 70s. The usual content of the terms “luxury” and “solidity” is likely “Slightly tweaked by the 1947 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith. Our youngest guests will probably be curious to see the DeLorean Turbt car, which has become a symbol of the movie” Back to the Future “, Egidijus Einoris, the head of the club “Klasika” and the organizer of the event commented on the surprises that await the visitors of the exhibition.
Also, this year’s “Timeless Classics” convention will feature an impressive group of powerful and huge American cars from the 5-7 decades. They won’t miss the classic displays of European “muscle”, but a little weaker. There will be something to draw the attention of those interested in Soviet technology: the event will feature “Moscow”, “Ziguliai” and “Volga” from all shows. However, paradoxically, almost everyone has slipped off the conveyor in much better condition than before. Probably the most exotic displays in this category are the unique Leningrad car (which will debut in Biržai) and one of the few cranes that have survived to this day at the base of the GAZ 51 truck.
As in previous years, all exhibits will be carefully inspected and evaluated by an international commission of historical technical experts, whose verdict will determine who will receive the festival’s Grand Prize and who will win the trophies for individual nominations.
The historical equipment parade will move from Sodeliškės to Biržai on August 1 at 3 p.m. 30 minutes, and the exhibition at Biržai Aeroclub will take place until 6 p.m.
