The Klaipeda “Neptune” team will continue to fight for a place in the Champions League, because in the first national team match 77:73 (12:21 PM, 4:17 PM, 2:16 PM, 11:19 PM) broke the London Lions Club.

To advance to the Champions League, Neptune needs another victory. In the next match, the winner of the pair Botevgrad “Balkan” and Minsk “Cmoki” will be waiting for the residents of Klaipeda.

In the match that started exactly, the London side were slightly off the mark in the middle of the first half (14: 8), although Džiugas Slavinskas immediately responded with a three-point lead and Tadas Pažėgė added penalties. Norbert Giga continued the streak and the result equalized again (14:14), it was he who then led the Klaipeda team forward – 16:15. Byron Mullens did not allow the Lithuanians to escape with a long shot, but Neptūnas finished half ahead with 24:21.

Evaldas Šaulys increased Neptūnas’ lead (28:21), but just a few shots from Justin Robinson were enough for the Lions to breathe on their backs again: 30:31. The Klaipėda residents responded with a seven-point boost, the opponents closed in again, but were not allowed to overtake “Neptūnas”. Neptune took the lead (38:36) and finished the fourth with a slight advantage of 40:38.

For Neptune, things continued to go quite well until a non-sports foul was recorded for Klaid Metrik (44:39) after the review. Opponents take the opportunity to catch up and compare the result (45:45), but T.Pažėgė and G.Stankevičius again pushed “Neptune” further – 52:47. At the end of the quarter, the Lions managed to close the deficit – 54:54.

At one point, the London team had taken the lead (63:58), but K. Metikis stabbed a three-point stick, J. Slavinskas added another, and he himself soon led Klaipėda forward: 66:65. K.Metrikis increased the difference (69:95), leaving the opponents 3 minutes, and soon provoked a foul, after which he made both free throws – 71:65. Justin Robinson cut the Lions’ three-point deficit in half (68:71), while Metrikis was fouled for acting. Not only that, he had previously received an unsportsmanlike foul, which led to the end of his match and his departure from the field to the locker room.

Neptune slightly increased the lead (73:68) and had the possibility of another attack, but did not take advantage of the easy opportunities. Meanwhile, the rivals were right (70:73) and the teams had little more than a minute left. M.Mažeika was inappropriate, and Dirk Williams compared the result to a quick three points – 73:73. Neptune needed a break. After that, N. Giga caused two fouls and stopped issuing fines – they hit both, which Neptune really needed – 75:73. With 7 seconds remaining, a free kick was scored against M.Mažeikas, and consolidated the victory for his team.

Neptune: Norbertas Giga (14th chamber) and Džiugas Slavinskas – 15 each, Giedrius Stankevičius, Martynas Mažeika and Klaidas Metrikis – 8 each, Žygimantas Janavičius 7 (8th ed.), Tadas Pažardas and Matas Jogėla – 5 each.

“Lions”: Matthew Bryan-Amaning 16 (Rev. 9), Justin Robinson 13, Byron Mullens 10, Kevin Ware, Joe Ikhinmwin 7.
