The Panevėžys Wildlife Protection Inspectorate during an inspection in June and July found that the public institution Raubonių Parkas illegally keeps and exhibits animals that are protected and included in the list of prohibited animals. Some animals do not have the required certificates for their trade (public display for remuneration), others do not have the required acquisition documents, and some animals are kept without permission.

Raubonių Park has appealed to the courts the infractions identified during the previous inspections and the administrative and legal responsibilities applied. During the last inspection, it was established that the animals are exhibited for a fee (that is, they are traded), the animals are kept in violation of the requirements of the Wildlife Regulation, the Description of Procedures for the Use of Protected Species, the Wildlife Trade Regulations and other legal acts.

To ensure that rapes are no longer committed, the animals for which suitable temporary accommodation has been found, with the help of the necessary specialists, from the Rauboniai Park in 2021. July 20 were taken.

“It is often asked why animals are exported to foreign countries. Note that there are clear requirements for animal husbandry. Even when animals are taken on a temporary basis, they must be provided with the best possible conditions and welfare. If not suitable places are found in Lithuania, animal care centers are used abroad, ”says Mantė Ramanauskienė, Head of the Panevėžys Wildlife Inspectorate.

In this case, after finding suitable places, the brown bear (bear), the cougar and the lion were removed from the Rauboniai Park so that the rapes would not be committed again and the animals would receive the best conditions and specialized care. The animals were transferred to animal centers in Germany and Belgium.

In addition, there is currently an intensive search for suitable places for other animals to relocate. Once found, other animals that are kept without the required documents or in violation of animal housing requirements will be moved. We hope we can have some animals temporarily in the Lithuanian zoo.

“Violations by wildlife breeders will not be tolerated for many years. All possible measures will be taken under legal acts so that the animals are caught immediately, the violations stopped and the animals moved to suitable places to May they live ”, emphasizes M. Ramanauskienė.

Although, adds the director of Panevėžys GGAI, the Rauboniai park denies holding public exhibits of animals for a fee, environmentalists believe that the animals are kept in the park precisely to receive a reward.

“The noise from the high-flow rides and keepers, the conditions in which the animals lived indoors, will be changed to conditions adapted to the physiological needs of wild animals. Animals are not toys or entertainment, their care is clearly regulated to guarantee their well-being ”, says M. Ramanauskienė.

We remind you that those who keep wild animals in captivity must comply with the conditions established in the Permit and the Rules for the Use of Wild Animals.

When purchasing wild animals for storage in enclosures, aviaries or other buildings, it is necessary to have documents confirming their origin (i.e. the circumstances of removing them from the wild, raising them or importing them into the Republic of Lithuania) and their legal acquisition.

Authorization holders must keep a record containing data on wild animals kept (species, number of wild animals, age, sex, health, dates of birth and death, source of acquisition, information on relocation, relocation of wild animals) .
