On Wednesday, Lithuania’s Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Jurgita Šiugždinienė, announced that Lithuania had sent official letters to Latvia and the IIHF and expressed her desire to accept the most powerful hockey players on the planet.

“I had a video conference with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonyte. First of all, I am very grateful to the Lithuanian government for their willingness to help. We have already spoken with Bratislava, Riga, Denmark. Denmark and Bratislava already have a good experience in the organizing such tournaments in 2018 and 2019. I really appreciate the efforts of the Lithuanians, but it doesn’t make sense for us to select as many candidates as possible, ”noted R. Faselis.

According to the IIHF president, Denmark and Slovakia are much better options.

“These countries already have experience and this gives them a huge competitive advantage over Lithuania. The Prime Minister of Lithuania understood our position. He said that Lithuania is ready to help if there is any problem,” said R. Faselis.

It will be recalled that initially the World Championships were to take place in Minsk and Riga. However, on Monday, the IIHF council deprived the Belarusian capital of the right to host a tournament due to unrest in the country.

The World Cup will take place from May 21 to June 6.
