On Monday, the BNS news agency is organizing press conferences of the leaders of the political parties that entered the Seimas to discuss the results of the second electoral round.

You can see them here:

I.Šimonytė said he could not release any news yet. He thanked him for the trust he had earned and the responsibility he had in trying to form a functional majority and a government.

He noted that the three center-right parties now working in the opposition have agreed to start talks on forming a coalition.

TS-LKD President Gabrielius Landsbergis also thanked the party for the trust it had earned.

When asked if he had received calls from the Labor Party whose votes the new ruling coalition might need, Landsberg answered yes.

According to I. Šimonytė, the party could nominate candidates for the heads of all ministries. However, he said that he would also leave the opportunity for potential coalition partners to present their nomination proposals, from which the best candidates for Lithuania will be selected, those who have the greatest confidence and can implement the agreed work.

“It would probably be a polite way to say that there is no place reserved for anyone,” he said.

The Liberal Movement has indicated that it would like to run for the position of President of the Seimas. According to G.Landsbergis, all positions both in the Seimas and in the Government can be discussed. But first the coalition formation will start with a discussion of the works, then there will be a talk on personalities.

According to I. Šimonytė, it is too early to say when it will be specific surnames for certain positions. But he said it would not be difficult to agree on staffing once the works are agreed.

G.Landsberg: I will work where necessary

In what position or position would G. Landsbergis look? He explained that there was still no concrete debate on this.

But the conservative leader assured that he would work where necessary.

“It just came to our knowledge then. When I say that I can work in the Culture Committee, I mean that I can work where we see, probably together, that it is most valuable to me that I can bring the greatest benefit to both the coalition and the government. We have not yet had a concrete discussion on, say, the direction of any discussion. That would be a simple answer: when necessary, I will work there and where we will agree, “explained G. Landsbergis.

The questions are about the DNA of the economy.

When asked about next year’s state budget, I. Šimonytė explained that he was trying to speak diplomatically. All the parties that will form a coalition, according to her, have their own vision for a possible reform of the tax system. However, this is not a question of today or this year.

The main issues for next year’s state budget, according to a potential future prime minister, are the economic DNA plan, not projected spending such as pensions, children’s money or other liabilities.

“Because the ambition is to make investments that have long-term consequences and, obviously, looking at those long-term consequences here, the long-term impact on the economic transformation that we want to contribute to greater added value in education, health, social protection, we are there “Obviously, we will have more work to evaluate those investments and if they can really be planned now in next year’s budget, or if we must first reach an agreement on the so-called European Recovery Fund,” commented I. Šimonytė.

He said more work would be needed to evaluate the investments planned in the plan.

Speaking about the coronavirus, I. Šimonytė said she was worried about several things.

He said there is some confusion about how to handle the situation.

In their opinion, the start should be due to the administrative resources that can manage the processes.

The politician mentioned, for example, that people receive reports of contact with an infected COVID-19 too late.

In addition, according to I. Šimonytė, experts, specialists, doctors, rather than politicians, could communicate more on the subject of the coronavirus.

Foreign policy, as Mr Landsbergis has pointed out, will continue to be based on the same principles as before: strategic partnership with neighboring countries, in the transatlantic space. The association with Germany can be further emphasized.

According to the president of TS-LKD, there are challenges in foreign policy. Attention to the Belarusian opposition should increase. We must also take into account the challenges in the south of the European Union; these are also the challenges of Lithuania, although they are far from us.

Speaking of various laws on prohibitions adopted by the current rulers, I. Šimonytė explained that his main message would be that as soon as the new Seimas meets, there will be no revolution, that the decisions taken by the current parliament will be repealed.

“Because all restrictions on the sale of alcohol, however, must be evaluated with a certain prism of excuse or not, discussions must also take place with health professionals, businessmen and other interested parties. And then I do not rule out that some part of the requirements or some provisions may change. But again, it will not happen overnight, during the week or immediately, “said a possible future prime minister.

Won the most seats

Representatives of the TS-LKD, which won the Seimas elections, will hold 50 seats in the new parliament.

In the multi-member constituency, the party won 23 parliamentary seats. In the first round of elections, I. Šimonytė was elected a member of the Seimas in the single-member electoral district of Antakalnis.

In the second round of the Seimas elections, the Conservatives won 26 more parliamentary seats in single-member electoral districts.

On Monday night, three parties currently working in the opposition, the TS-LKD, the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party, issued a statement declaring that these political forces are determined to mobilize and form a coalition and a government headed by I. Šimonytė.
