At the beginning of the government meeting on Wednesday, S. Skvernelis said that he does not hear any rational proposals from the Prime Minister-designate, only statements.

“As we already started communicating with political statements, I really appreciate the appointment of the designated prime minister, but unfortunately again, there are no concrete suggestions on what still needs to be done to strengthen control and management of the situation,” he said.

S. Skvernelis recalled that the changes due to quarantine take effect from today, in which necessary and necessary decisions have been made. He mentioned that possible contacts are restricted, gatherings in supermarkets, communication with more than two family farms, organization of personal celebrations and the like.

He says he has no right to delay

In his address, I. Šimonytė points out that the record number of people infected by coronavirus and the reports of dozens of our fellow citizens dying every day, published on Wednesday, show that the decisions so far have not helped to stabilize the situation and achieve its improvement.

“I appeal to you because we no longer have any moral or political right to delay. Every day of delay costs people’s lives and health. Decisions not made today will mean the loss of people’s lives in the next month.

If the entire Lithuanian health system is “burned out” and does not provide the necessary, timely and qualified assistance without maintaining the number of hospitalized patients, the consequences will be extremely painful: the indicators of excessive mortality are already alarming, “said I. Šimonytė.

“I am ready to publicly support and support the necessary decisions, thus sharing their responsibilities. Faced with an unprecedented crisis, when government action is killing people, we cannot and should not be guided by narrow deductions of political benefits. I believe that you, both as a former official and as a political leader currently serving as Prime Minister, will act with honor and determination, ”the speech reads.
