What is the basis for the desire to change the basic social structure: the family? What would be the consequences for the societies that grew up on the basis of the civilization of Christian Europe of replacing the natural concept of the family with new social constructions? Are there reliable criteria by which we can assess the benefits or harms of such changes?
These and many other issues will be addressed at the International Conference on the Future of Europe, the Family and Natural Human Rights in 2021. February 19 1:15 pm The conference is organized by the Institute of Free Society, under the auspices of the Group Temporary Seimas “For the Family”.
Well-known speakers in the world and in Lithuania will debate whether the desire to change the concept of family, which has existed for millennia, is justified and whether it really leads to progress. This is Katy Faust (USA), Founder and author of books for the children’s rights organization Them Before Us. He will talk about children’s experiences growing up in same-sex couples, explain why family policy should be driven by children’s interests, and present relevant scientific data.
Paul Coleman, CEO of ADF International (UK), an advocate for England’s higher courts before the International Courts, will present threats to freedom of expression by changing the concept of family and provide striking examples of the application of the ‘hate rules of the speak abroad.
Attorney dr. Juris Rudevskis (Latvia) will talk about how the definition of family has changed in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The lawyer will also review the events in the neighboring country: how Latvians oppose the Istanbul Convention and how they seek to protect the natural family in their Constitution.
Political philosopher, professor at Vilnius University, author of the books prof. Alvydas Jokubaitis (Lithuania). He will ask if Europe needs a family.
The conference will also feature speakers from neighboring Poland: professor from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University of Warsaw (UKSW) and former director of the Institute of Political Science, member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy. of Sciences, P. prof. Piotr Mazurkiewicz and legal historian and political philosopher, professor at the Jagiellonian University and director of the Department of Political Philosophy, member of the Court of the Republic of Poland prof.
