In Kaunas, funeral or cremation services are provided by several dozen companies, and the price of a funeral, depending on the wishes of the clients, ranges from 600 to 3,000 euros.
Website Rekvizitai.lt According to data from the Republic of Lithuania, there are currently 51 companies that provide funeral or cremation services registered in Kaunas, but not all of them openly and voluntarily name the amount that citizens usually spend on funerals.
Only some companies agree to provide pricing information to potential customers over the phone; most still offer to negotiate directly upon arrival at the funeral home.
When interviewing those companies that want to communicate, it turns out that the funeral service package, which includes the preparation of the deceased, the price of a coffin, temporary monument, cemetery, armory hall, hearse, moat, on average costs 1000 -1200 euros.
The amounts mentioned by the funeral business confirm the results of a survey conducted by the international market research company Berent a few years ago, which shows that according to a quarter of Kaunas residents, funerals usually cost between 1,000 and 1,500 euros.
The minimum amount for which a funeral can be arranged, according to commercial representatives, can be 700-800 euros, although during the quarantine, they say, a modest burial for 600 euros is also possible.
Interlocutors mentioned that the upper limit for a funeral, which is ordinary, personalized, welcoming, but does not satisfy any special wishes, is usually 2000 euros.
An unusual farewell ceremony that requires more preparation on the part of the organizers can also cost 3,000 euros.
A representative of the Rekviem farewell house, which opened in Kaunas in early February, said both modest and ornate funerals should be organized this year.
The cost of farewells so far ranges from € 1,000 when the room was reserved for a few hours to more than € 3,000 when their loved ones paid a lot of attention to the decoration of the room, in addition to renting a banquet hall to which they returned after the funeral ceremony. in the cemetery.
Relatives who did not rent the rooms and chose only the coronation service for the remains of the farewell house paid between 600 and 800 euros; the exact price depended on the urn chosen.
Cremation is not the most expensive
Although cremation of corpses is becoming more and more common in Lithuania, it still happens that it is still abandoned due to the high price imagined.
However, representatives from Kaunas funeral homes explained that the cost of cremation generally represents a smaller part of the amount of money spent on funerals.
For example, cremation in the Lithuanian crematorium with an ashes capsule costs about 390 euros, with transportation to and from the crematorium this service can cost up to 540 euros, the price can also be raised with an optional urn.
If you are going to incinerate with a coffin, you usually choose an unvarnished pine coffin, the price of which varies between 170-190 euros.
Meanwhile, the average price of a burial casket is around 400-600 euros. This amount also varies from 100 euros – for the most modest coffin to 1500-2000 euros – for chic.
Renting an armory room in Kaunas costs on average 80 to 250 euros, funeral clothes – 40 to 150 euros, a hearse is rented for 100-200 euros.
Funeral home representatives interviewed said funeral wreaths, armory decorations with flowers, services of singers or musicians, mourning dinners, donations to the church, a cemetery and other services may have an additional cost.
They also hinted at offering discounts, which, again, depend on the quantity and terms of the services selected.
The funeral home does not include the cemetery, well digging, and cemetery document management services in the funeral package; the municipal cemetery maintenance company in Kaunas is responsible for this.
Facilitate goodbye
Rekviem, the only surveyed companies that provide funeral services in Kaunas, offer the prices of their services on the website, they can also be found out by calling a 24-hour phone. According to a company spokesperson, there are several reasons for this.
“The funeral ceremony is a very personal, sensitive and unusual event. We all want to say goodbye with dignity to the deceased, at that time loved ones should not be pressured by a marathon of calls to funeral services companies.
“People need to receive as much clarity and help as possible, thereby alleviating an already difficult time,” he said.
