The best visions submitted by the architects will be selected by an international jury, entries will be announced in the second half of June and the winner will be announced in August.
“I hope it will be difficult for the commission to choose the best competitive job, because there will be a lot of good ones,” says Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius. “Most importantly, after the best job, the station area is not only recognizable by unique signage, but also comfortable and vibrant.”
According to LTG CEO Mantas Bartuška, the vision of transforming the Vilnius railway station territory into a modern hub for mobility, business and leisure is becoming a reality.
“From the initial vision to the stage in which we are now, a titanic work of preparation and planning has been carried out, laying the foundations for the entire transformation of the territory. Expect a historic change, in which a large community of architects is already involved. The great attention to this competition confirms that the Vilnius train station has every opportunity to become not only a new center of attraction in Vilnius, but also a convenient connection with the European capitals ”, says M. Bartuška.
The competition will aim to select the most suitable architectural proposal for Vilnius, answering the question of what a modern train station and its access points should look like. The renewal of this territory is one of the most important changes in the city of Vilnius, which has a meaning for the image of the entire state and the identity of the capital. The future European Rail Baltica track will give Vilnius a boost to become an important part of the European rail network.
2021 March. Tender participants announced the requirement to create a world-renowned and iconic international train station project, to offer a public transport service infrastructure representing Lithuania and Vilnius and meeting the highest quality standards, to form an attractive station square and offer the idea A vibrant and connecting station district urban center.
The works of the competition participants will be evaluated by an 11-member international evaluation committee, consisting of Lithuanian and foreign architects, LTG, LTG Infra, LTG Link and representatives of the Municipality of Vilnius. The commission will be chaired by Vilnius Chief Architect Mindaugas Pakalnis.
Final results of the competition are expected to be announced in 2021. August. The winners will be awarded 120 thousand. Euro prize fund: 1st place winner will receive 50 thousand. EUR, II – 30 thousand. EUR, III – 20 thousand. EUR bonuses. The participants of the contest who took places IV and V will receive 10,000. bonuses up to EUR.
The works of the participants in the tender will be published in the second half of June on the website www.vilniusconnect.lt.
