“We have lost the extraordinary voice of Lithuania, which has captivated the hearts of many fans around the world,” said President Gitanas Nausėda.
According to him, Lithuania will remember V. Daunor not only as a creator of diverse talents who has proven himself in painting, but also as a socially active person.
V. Daunoras was a member of the Sąjūdis initiative group. In 2000, he received the Medal of Independence for his merits in restoring and consolidating the Lithuanian state.
According to Seimas spokesperson Viktoras Pranckietis, Lithuania has lost a legendary personality that has inspired generations.
“The Lithuanian theater stage has lost its exceptional talent and legendary personality, which has inspired generations with its perseverance and courage,” said Seimas President V. Pranckietis.
“Through his works, he brought the culture of oppressed Lithuania around the world and spread the word about our free and opera-loving nation,” he added.
Daunor died Monday at the age of 84.
He was born in 1937 in Žagarė, graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory in 1962, taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music for several decades, was director of the Department of Singing and teacher.

The soloist worked for many years at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater, the Lithuanian Philharmonic, the Kaunas Musical Theater, and in 1966-1968 he did an internship at the La Scala Theater in Milan.
V. Daunor has toured Europe, the United States, Canada and Egypt.
In 1988, he was a member of the initiative group of the Lithuanian Restructuring Movement.
V. Daunor lived in the US from 1994 to 2017, taught singing privately, was a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera Theater in New York from 1996 to 2005, and toured with the theater in Japan.
